I'm not going to Flipside this year. I think I've mentioned it before, but I saw someone who is going and chatted with her about it. I'm of two minds... with the weather being like it is, it's hard to imagine not camping at every opportunity, and I feel regret that I'm not going. Now, the fact that today's pleasantness will soon enough become tomorrow's sweltering furnace deters me. Plus, they're apparently becoming more hostile towards car camping which makes no sense- 95% of the people there will be driving a car that has to go somewhere, and pitching a tent or some other living space. In other words, 2 big footprints where there could be only one- the car that has to get you there anyway.
Also, it's been getting bigger. The land they're holding it on maxes out at, in my opinion, about 600. More than that, and it's just too crowded, and it starts to feel like there's nowhere you can be to enjoy nature and have quiet time, which is a big part of why I go camping in the first place. The person I talked to today mentioned that they'd sold 800 tickets, and some of them are starting to realize that this might not have been such a great idea. I'm sad to have to say goodbye to Flipside, just as I was sad to say goodbye to CMA when they got too big for their britches. I suppose this will be the transitional year where I try to find another organization that has camp-outs, and stick with them until they get too big for their britches. Camping at these sort of events fulfills a socialization need, or else we'd just camp by ourselves. Maybe I could find some camping buddies.
