One of my long-time Dedicants went through Initiation last night. It went well. There were a few glitches but considering this is only the second time ever I've done this ritual, it's amazing it went as well as it did, because it's pretty complex. Most of the specifics are oathbound, and I wish I could talk about it more- but suffice it to say, he went through it magnificently and I was very happy and excited for him- the anticipation's been building up for days (well, a month to be precise) and I'm happy with the results. I hope he is too; he is a very polite person, and even wrote me a thank you note afterward, but he's hard for me to read. I could be looking for trouble too, so I'm not going to dig too deep.
The other Initiate and I have very, um, strong personalities and we've both promised that we're going to try really hard not to roll over this guy and take advantage of his sweet nature and willingness to go along with what other people want. He strikes me as someone who is used to his opinion not mattering; that will have to change, though, because he now makes up 33.333333333% of our inner court and his opinion is really important!
Here's what a treasure this guy is- he has made a banner for our group that he embroidered himself, on beautiful dark blue velvet with metallic thread, beaded fringe, and sparkly sequins. He presented it to us during the ritual. He's a Sag, for those of you into astrology- ruled by Jupiter, planet of expansion and generosity. I can believe it.
Oh, and we both ended our fast last night. We feasted the newest Initiate with sushi, home made minestrone, hand-picked greens salad, garlic bread, chocolate lava cake, calabacitas, cookies, and mead. I was stuffed and exhausted afterwards. I think I got sugar overload- my insides feel a little wonky and I feel pretty run-down this morning. But overall I'm really happy with the work we did.
