I sometimes check the paper to see how my high school football team did. Don't tell anyone.

I am apparently one of those freaks who was quiet, smart, and enjoyed high school despite that. I was a band geek- I loved band, I even liked marching band. And having a dad as a coach meant I understood football, even though I never went out of my way to watch it. So I was able to be entertained at our school's football games.

We went to a small school in a small town, so the scores weren't in the Austin paper. I went to the town's daily paper website, and behold! Another era is over- they've moved my school to a brand-spanking-new building across town. It looks nice (chequez it out, upon the condition that you not laugh at how lame our mascot is). I thought the old building was fine, but I haven't been there in over 15 years and it's entirely possible that it was just too small. They're thinking of making the old one a school for 7th and 8th graders. Man, time flies.

Quiet, smart band geek. Sounds an awful lot like me. I was in the pep band (no marching band at my school, although the upper band marched in one very short parade each June), and pit orchestra. One year for pit, we all made and hung on our necks little backstage-pass type cards bearing an insignia, the words "BAND NERD MAFIA" and our secret agent # on them. I still have mine somewhere.
