Back at work. I think I'd like another day to get over this cold, but I'm more or less better. I still sound like I've been smoking for 35 years.
Yesterday I went to the Pecan Street festival. I'd been once before, and I don't remember it being such a pain in the ass to get to (maybe because I didn't drive). Parking downtown is usually horrible, and it was quite a hike, and pretty hot on top of things... I think I sweat a gallon. But I did find some great tie-dye, one hawaiian-style shirt in just a crinkle blue and turquoise, and another flowing top thing that is mostly black and indigo crinkle, but with a rainbow border right at the hem at an angle. It's one of those things that is sort of like a tunic top, long enough that if you wore shorts with it it almost looks like a really short dress. Not as wildly colorful as some of the other tie-dye I have, but not everything I wear has to look like I'm trying to wake the dead.
Speaking of fashion (as I so often do), Utilikilt has a new style called the Mocker. It has a new pocket design so they are almost invisible. I agree with DH; I think I like the Workman's better. It looks more like a *kilt*. The Mocker looks like something a Japanese schoolgirl could wear.
I also went to the New Moon event, which was held out at one of the students' land in Bastrop. I didn't really feel like going (Pecan Street was pretty tiring) but the land was very pretty- it was covered with oaks and elms, and after the Sun set the Milky Way was stretched directly overhead- you don't get to see that in the city, or even in the suburbs.
Today, I work. They've made some improvements to our entry program, which makes things quite a bit easier.
I'm listening to more Dave Matthews. I think this may be one of my favorite cds for awhile. Interestingly, the reviews I've read all seem to like it too, except one git who started the review with 'Dave. Dude. You OK? Need a Prozac?' which points out the 'shallow frat boy' faction that gives the rest of the people that like Dave a bad name *raspberry noise*. I think I like the acoustic version of 'Gravedigger' best; also 'Up and Away', the title track, and 'Grey Blue Eyes'. 'An' Another Thing' is probably my least favorite; he sings the whole thing in a high falsetto, which just sounds weird. Anyway, 'Gravedigger' reminds me of another sad song that creeped me out as a kid, 'Eleanor Rigby'. It's sad, but beautiful. By the way, I was able to catch the video, and I think I dislike it. The imagery is about as subtle as a sledgehammer; crying slave, dead bloody kid by a crushed bike, mother screaming at a gravesite. OK! We get it! Death is a big bummer! I mean, it depicts what the song is about but does it in such an obvious and ham-handed way that it actually pulled me out of the song, thinking 'OK, the director really, really wants me to be sad now.' Alright, already. It may as well have been a 3 minute shot of the dead bird in 'American Beauty'. Actually, I think that would have been better. But I will try not to think of it when I hear the song.
