I've switched back to S1 Live Journal style for the nonce. S2 looks pretty, but it's buggy and not supported and will take a lot of dicking with to get to how I like it. So I'll save it for another day.
How was jury duty, you wonder? I dunno! After having hub drive me, grumbling, all the way downtown and hiking to the courthouse, it turns out I read the date wrong and it's actually tomorrow. So I hiked my ass 10 blocks to the bus stop (which did nearly kick my ass), and waited probably a good 45 minutes for one of the 2 buses going north to stop. One came by before then, but didn't stop for no apparent reason. So I hopped on, and did the first leg of the trip. The bus was an express, which cost more, and was very clean and nice. It did, despite the name, drive maybe 30 miles an hour the whole way. So I got to the second stop, and the bus that I had figured out for the second leg of the trip didn't show up for about an hour. As I got on, I asked the driver if she would be stopping at an intersection that appeared on the website's map as part of the route, but not an actual stop. She claimed that she didn't even go near that intersection, and to go on this other bus, even though her route (displayed in big, blinking flashing letters) is the name of the street I'm trying to get to. So she shooed me off, and I called hub to verify this via their website. The bus she told me to get on didn't go anywhere near where I needed to go, so unless they switched the routes but kept the names of streets they no longer go to, this toothless hillbilly &$%@!! driver is a moron and I was already missing work. I called Bob who was kind enough (though grumbling) to pick me up and take me home, where I changed clothes and dashed to work.
Now I'm exhausted. And I get to do this all over again tomorrow! Except without the work thing. I figure once I get home, assuming I don't need to fall into the pool to prevent heat stroke, I will probably just take a damn nap, which is what I really want to do now.
I am sure grateful that I don't actually have to rely on the bus system in this town.
And, they printed my letter to the editor. I've gotten one call at home (they refuse to print anonymous letters, so my full name's there) asking to 'discuss' it. No, thanks, buddy.
