Another day, another few dollars. More than I thought, actually- I took a paystub and calculated my hourly rate (I get paid once a month) and it's over $15/hour. After taxes, around $13. So I don't have to work as many hours as I thought I would to make up for the insurance cost increase. Huzzah!

Lammas ritual went... okay. I wasn't scheduled to write it or HPS it, so I was looking forward to a break- but everyone flaked on me and I ended up doing a lot more work than I expected. And no one who showed up said 'thanks'. The energy seemed really low. It was a bit depressing, really. Ah, well.

River mentioned planning a 3 day trip in October to Hot Springs, Arkansas. She says the cabins she's thinking of are $50 a day (so if we three went, I'd pay $50 as my share for the whole 3 days), you can mine for $10 a day and take home as much as you mine for that price, and have access to the hot springs for $10 a day, massages are cheap, and it sounds wonderful overall. I am also planning to go to Atlanta again in September for Autumnfest, but again will be splitting the traveling cost with Brenda (most likely) so it should be a pretty inexpensive jaunt.

[Edit: I suppose it's worth mentioning that we would be mining for pretty sparkly quartz crystals. It sounds a lot more fun that way, doesn't it?]

Good to know you will be heading east in September -- will see you "near Dahlonega" for a weekend of general goofiness. Be sure to bring a kazoo or something: we really need to have a jug-band night under the big tin roof.

who will do her very very best to not be so stuffy this time... yours comments about stuffy elders got me thinking.

I'll have my drum; it's a lot easier to bring the kitchen sink when you're driving rather than flying.

Did I make a comment about stuffy elders? I'm pretty sure I wasn't refering to you... huh. I need to stop smoking crack soon. :p

Odd Memory

I used to work somewhere with a seriously homophobic co-worker. I mean, this was someone for whom a significant amount of his energy was wrapped up in anxiety that somewhere people were having sex with others of the same gender.

So another co-worker went to Hot Springs, Arkansas. He kept talking about how he was visiting Arkansas for the bathhouses. He used the word "bathhouse" about ten times in about five minutes.

The funny thing was you could see something like a small electric shock go through the homophobe every time he heard the word "bathhouse". He twitched and shifted his feet. I've got lots of stories about homophobia, and that's one of the few that makes me laugh. I think of it whenever I hear Hot Springs, AR mentioned.

What kinds of mines are there?

I'm not sure, as I've never been, but I think it's mostly clear and some smoky and rutilated quartz. I also heard there was one mine that supposedly had diamonds, but we're planning to get quartz.

Bathhouse! It's like the horses in 'Young Frankenstien'... 'Blucher!'

"Frau Blucher!" Yes, that's a perfect description of how he reacted.

Mining for quartz sounds fun. I don't know tons of it, but I've always liked geology and minerology. I was just hoping it wasn't coal.
