It's been mile-from-the-Sun hot here the last few days, and we're getting in that typical August weather pattern than insures we will continue like this for a good while. For instance now, about 12:20, my Weatherbug program tells me it's 106* with a heat index of 115*. That's really hotter than it normally is. But there's no evidence to support global warming. Riiight.

In other news, Bolt went to the vet for blood work-up, and the results are mixed leaning towards good. He's lost weight (.75 pounds, which she said was like 10 pounds for a person), which is not good, but we think it's because we changed from free-feeding him to feeding him at specific times, after he's been free-feeding for years. This is because if we try to free-feed him his prescription food, the other cats eat it which isn't so bad for them, but the stuff is really expensive. So she said we could see how his bloodwork is and perhaps free-feed him cheaper senior cat füd if it was improved. Senior füd isn't as good for him as the prescription, but it's a lot better than the regular stuff. His creatinine was up from 38 to 39 (I think), but his BUN came down from just above normal to the highest end of the normal range, so she gave the go-ahead for Operation Senior Cat Füd Free-Feed. I asked him if he would prefer Iams or Science Diet, and he said Iams, so I got him a bag of that which he seems to like. Hopefully he'll keep liking it enough to fatten up some plus we'll keep doing the sub-q every other week.

After the visit, I popped over to Ellen's for a visit out to the lake. She was not feeling well, between being sleep-deprived and way over-heated, so we left early. But I really enjoyed the brief time I was there. The top 5 feet of water was warm as blood, then very pleasantly cool below that. Plus, since people throw bread and whatall to the ducks into the lake from the shore, there are tons and tons of little fish that hang out and wait for their share. At one point I was floating by the shore chatting with the hippies on rafts, and I stuck my head underwater and looked around. Behind me, looking very expectant, were at least a score of fish about a foot away. Just looking back at me and ...waiting. I don't know what that was about, and I suspect that if I had stopped moving they would've tried to eat my pale white carcass, but it was still cool.

I spent all day yesterday writing Lammas. I think it turned out really well, but we'll see on Saturday. I think I will print out some of the poetry describing Dumuzi and Inanna's courtship; I didn't include it in the ritual, but it's steamy to the point of being almost pornographic, and I can imagine some people being amused to read it.

My cats seem to enjoy Nutro's Max Cat geriatric cat food just fine, and they're another good cat food company.

Inanna/Dumuzi: yeah, I've seen some pretty engrossing stuff about their courtship. As I recall, the word "honey" gets used a lot...

Yeah, it does. As I'm reading the stuff, I hear a lot of Barry White music in my head.
