Thanks to everyone about the girl parts advice. Before I got on the Pill, my periods were long, unpredictable and painful. The Pill was a blessing, as I could predict almost to the hour when my period would start. Then for some unknown reason I decided to try the Depo shot, which was okay for a few months but then there was weird spotting all the time. At that point I'd been doing a lot of thinking and decided to get my tubes tied. This happened in 11/97, and so I went off birth control for the first time in over 10 years. My periods went back to being long, unpredictable and painful again, and I have some pretty painful adhesions on top of everything else (not as painful as childbirth, I expect, so I live with it). Around 1/00 I had an endometrial ablation, which is a seldom-performed procedure where they burn out as much of the lining of your uterus as they can manage to, though it's done blind and there's little to no chance it'll get all the lining. I didn't have a period for several months, but then they started coming about every other month and were not especially long but were still extremely painful. I complained to my gyno, who did an ultrasound (not the nice one you see on TV) and saw something that worried him (I'm betting either the ablation leftovers- which were done by another doctor- or a benign growth he'd noticed when he tied my tubes) so decided to do a D&C last August. It didn't really help.

The upside of all this is, don't complain to your doctor or they will make you go through expensive, pointless, and undignified medical procedures that don't do any good. I figure I'm just stuck with this for this lifetime. Naproxen usually makes me semi-functional and since it only occurs every other month or so, I'll just put up with it. At some point, someone will probably suggest a hysterectomy and if I am starting menopause I may go for it, have them leave in the ovaries, or whatever. I'll research it when the time comes. I am going to see my new doc in a couple of weeks, since my old doc not only was not terribly helpful but also decided to stop taking my insurance. The new one has helped out hub and Brö, and seems like a great person (and is a woman besides). We shall see.

ack! :( :::hugs:::

give the new doc a shot (well, not literally...). sometimes having someone who is sympathetic and might be up on the latest news makes all the difference.

as for a hysterectomy... I told you about my mom's, right?

No... what happened?

warning... kinda gross....

this was after my dad passed away... she started gaining some weight, but it looked rather odd... one time we were in the dressing room together, where I saw it for the first time. this bump was sorta sticking out to one side.

My mom (as I've mentioned before) is horrible about going to doctors... part of it is procrastination, another is that any blood test ordered is difficult because her veins will collapse. My dad was the only one who was ever able to snag the vein at the first shot... any other person takes about three sticks before they strike the right spot. She had also been really tired and stuff, so I kept harrassing her to go to the damn doctor already.

She had an appointment, visited the vampires, and I went somewhere. Nothing really said at that point... I come home to her message on my answering machine saying she had to go to the hospital, because she was dangerously aneimic (she ended up having to have a blood trasfusion). as I rushed over there, the docs did an ultrasound, and found most of her uterus had a fiberous tumor attached to it. She had to have surgery to get it out, which had to be a hysterectomy, since it was so big.

evidently the thing had been about the size of a soccer ball (the biggest one the OB ever had had to deal with), but it was benign, thank the gods.

so this is one reason why I gripe to people to go see the doctor :::grin::: so forgive me if I sound like a broken record to you :) I just care and want to see you healthy :)

I've got abdominal scarring, and probably entometriosis, so I know of what you speak. Seriously, taking omegas internally and applying castor oil externally has made a world of difference.

I'll research this myself, but since you mentioned it I'll ask- what's a good source of internal omegas? Should I take them all the time or just around when my period happens?

Take omegas all the time; apply castor oil when your cycle starts. Omegas not only help keep thigns lubed inside, but help with PMS, and lots of other things. You can get an omega 3-6-9 combo at the store. Don't settle for just flax - get them all, or at the least, get omega-6 (usually evening primrose oil).
