I hate UTIs. I get them at least once a year, sometimes once a season. I was pleasantly surprised by the Nurse Practitioner that my primary care doc has working with him- she did not make me go to the stupid lab 10 blocks away to have a UA that would tell her what I already know. She wrote my script and sent me on my way.

Now I just wait for the drugs to work.

You know that feeling when you drink 6 cups of coffee and you're in the car and you don't want to stop driving so you continue driving until your bladder almost explodes and you finally stop? That excruciating moment right before you start to urinate? That's how I've felt since I woke up this morning. Sorry if it's TMI, but I can tell you that reading about it ain't near as bad as living it, pal.

hope you don't mind my asking...

have you tried cranberry supplements? there are some out that are round gel caplets (I wanna say Schiff makes them, but it's been awhile since I was able to get to the health food store that sells them... I'm taking some others, the size of which I'm not too happy about)... they help knock out UTIs, and keep them away, at least for me...

just a suggestion from a hippychick :)

Oh, the drugs I get knock them out fine, but there's the wait for them to kick in. Unless (she asked hopefully) you can take these preventatively? That would be woooonderful.
yeppers :) you can also reportedly stem off UTIs by drinking straight cranberry juice-- it seems to make the urine more acidic, and therefore kill the little buggers before they start. Honestly? I really can't stand the stuff alone, but to drink enough to prevent it, I would have to drink enough cran-grape (or cran-strawberry or cran-apple)to gag a horse. That's why I try to find the supplements with the highest concentration, and take at least two a day ;) six a day when I feel the symptoms coming on....

< disclaimer>
I can't say it would work for everyone, but it seems to do the job for me

There's also a special pill on the market... I wanna call it Anzo? It comes in a white box, and you don't get very many... it's to help with the symptoms while you are waiting for the script stuff to kick in. If nothing else, you might ask at the pharmacy... they might know of which I speak.

hope these help, darlin. you are too special to have to go through that :P

What a sweetie!

I'm definitely gonna look into the cranberry in a pill- if I can take a pill or 2 every day and never have another UTI, it's well worth it.

I think the other stuff you're talking about is Azo; aka pyridium, that wonderful stuff that turns your pee dark orange. That stuff has saved my loved ones and other innocent bystanders from certain death many times.
