Ham +1 is in a cooler in the bathtub taking a soak, just like Alton Brown sed. We're inviting a couple of people over, and will probably skip on any other celebrations. We are a peaceful people.
Speaking of pigs, even though my diet tends to run to vegetarian fare more evenings than not I had a really strong craving for a BL last night (I don't like raw tomatoes, so this is opposed to a BLT). We went to ye olde supermarket and hub found some thick-sliced peppery bacon. He bought himself a small roma tomato and cooked the bacon in the oven, which is another thing Alton told us was better. Oh, sweet Jesus, it is. Mine had mayo, bacon, lettuce, sharp onions and a slice of deli provolone on an onion roll. His was similar but with the roma. He called it "God's BLT" and I agreed. I wasn't even high or anything; it was a fantastically good sandwich.
We ate them and watched 'Spirited Away', which remains my favorite movie of the year. 'Castle in the Sky' was cool, but the story didn't hang together as well, I think. I noticed that Miyazaki's stuff always seems to involve the ecstasy of flying... just like in your dreams. Powerful stuff.
Hub is at some thing put on by the unemployment office that talks about getting free money to go do stuff, like send a computer geek to a trade school, for instance. They had a locksmithing school that had a crash course and said that work was really good these days, since people weren't feeling safe. The school's expensive, though, so the only way this'd work is if he could get some kind of grant. *sigh* On the other hand, his pimp mentioned that there may be a temp-to-perm job he could get, so we're really hoping he gets that. It looks like that would actually pay a decent wage.
Other plans for today include lunch with Gordon and some guy that is doing a project on religious diversity and wants to interview a Real Live Wiccan and 'observe' a ritual. I'll chat with him all day, but ain't no spectators in our rituals. Also I need to get some yeast for my mead- I think I killed the other stuff by accident. Oops.
