On the other hand, it's also irritating as shit how many people have decided that there's nothing to be happy about. On one board I frequent, there were a couple of people that latched on to the dissenting guy's statements and took it as a chance to rail on about the moralizing hatemongers. On another, someone said "I hate to rain on your parade..." and went on to explain that because of those awful Democrats walking out (which happened well before this ruling) the law will have to remain on the books until someone bothers to remove it. Why, oh why on Earth can't people be happy about something? I just sit here with my jaw dropped and think "don't you people realize this is good news?" I never paid too much attention to the Republican stereotype of the humorless liberal that always finds something wrong and sits around spouting dire warnings and trying to drag everyone down with joyless alarmism. I don't consider myself a naive optimist out of a sense of self-preservation- if you can't enjoy some milestones and celebrate once in awhile, life's pretty much going to be a long grinding hopeless list of suckage, isn't it?
