The deed is done- both cats have what the vet techs fancifully call a 'lion cut'. For the uninformed, this means they shave everything but the legs, head/neck, and tail. They did offer to shave all of the tail but the tip, but that sounded absurd so I said no.

Bowie apparently purred the entire time, and took all of about 5 minutes to shave. Bolt, on the otra, was a grade-A pain in the ass. When we went back to check after an hour or so (how long could it take for Qualified Professionals to shave 2 cats?), the room looked like a fur grenade had been detonated and Bolt was slinking around half-shaved and looking pissed. The harried tech said she was 'giving him a break'. I stuck around a little to help calm him, but though he was calmer, he still only put up with about 4 square inches of shaving and then starting swinging. They told me to take off and they'd eventually finish him up after another break. On the way to a mall to hang out at (I know, I know, but this is Texas in the summer, sheesh) they called and timidly asked if it was okay to gas him 'just a little bit' for no charge since he'd managed to bite one of them- I said as long as it was okay with his old kidneys it was okay with me.

We picked them both up at 4 (drop off was at 11) and they look smashing. Bowie, whose unshaved fur pattern is much more striped, is now an all-over sable color, and Bolt is his usual silvery-grey. They left ruffs and tails and feet, but the mats are all gone and I think everyone is much more comfortable.

hee!

My HPS has a 16 yr old Lhasa Apso (probably misspelled, ah well) named Poko. He's Little Blind Yoda.

Whenever they take him to the groomers, they have to start on his body first, because he HATES anyone futzing with his face. Usually he'll fall asleep, then the groomers can do the face.

He's thrown such fits when the techs forget this little tidbit, that they freak out and refuse to work on him anymore-- they're afraid that he's going to keel over on them! and they won't give him gas because of his age....

and he'll prance out of the groomers like he pulled yet another fast one. Exasperates her to no end :D

Yeah - I ran into this when I last had Puddy shaved. He's fluffy and medium-length and cottony, so burrs stick to him like dumb on Bush. My normally sweet, if skittish, cat managed to throw such a conniption that it freaked out the groomers, and he managed to get himself nicked a few times before they refused to ever see him again.
