Dear weather,

For fuck's sake! It's November! Quit it!

xoxo,
Mielikki

It was almost 90 degrees yesterday. When I go into the back yard I'm swarmed by mosquitoes. It's absurd. At least the Samhain ritual imagery focused more on the days getting shorter than on the cold winds from the north or whatever.

The ritual went well. Our Trad celebrates Samhain as being at the halfway point between the Fall equinox and the Winter solstice. Officially that happens Monday, but we celebrate it when it's convenient. In theory it's the first day of winter, but I've already groused about that. My favorite part was people sharing stories of their beloved dead. Pets, friends, but mostly grandma and grandpa stories. We cried a little, but mostly laughed long and loud. Oddly, everyone brought pretty healthy food. We've had rituals where everyone brings something covered with cheese or a dessert, but this one it was all fresh fruit and tabouli and salad. It's probably just as well.

I should not be up this early!

You know what I'm doing?

I'm avoiding cleaning my desk. What a pain in the ass. I have so many little tiny extremely cool things all over it (and the hutch above it, which I'm also cleaning) that it takes forever. This is a job for ants. Don't they like that kind of work? Where can I get some trained moving ants?

Lunch with Cathy and Dave and (for today only, a limited engagement) Brenda at Cafe Java ('coffee coffee') was wonderful. I had my usual, the BLT, thus blowing my diet for the day. I will not give up my Sunday BLT. Don't tell me to get ham, either, nothing tastes like bacon. We had much fine discussion of topics all over the map as usual. I was sad to learn that her old Maine Coon, Mister Kitty, has gone blind. They just discovered it this past week, but realize that it explains some heretofore unexplained behaviors for the past few weeks at least. He still seems pretty perky and happy otherwise, so they're just trying not to leave shoes in the middle of the floor for him to trip over and make other small accommodations like that.

Oh- I'm cleaning the desk because some nice OTO fella wanted to ditch his old one, which looks like a perfectly fine one except for one or two dings. It looks like this one, but lighter. He said beech, but it ain't that light, which is disappointing because I love beech; it's more like a light oak. But it's still in my car, where it will remain until I finish clearing off this desk (and hutch and printer stand and bookshelf and nightstand). I guess I'd better get back to it.
