Secret of Delphi Found in Ancient Text
I don't know why I never made the connection to Delphi and the constellation Delphinus (the link includes a java interactive sky map thingie, or just get a copy of H.A.Rey's The Stars), but it makes perfect sense. Now, what Delphi has to do with dolphins I don't know. Apollo isn't my favorite of gods, seeing as how he was kind of a jerk to Pan and all. But I have seen Delphinus, and it is a very pretty little constellation. It's small, and it's not got any stupendoulsly bright stars in it, but it looks like a wee little dolphin leaping out of the Milky Way. If you know where to look, and have a dark enough sky to look for it in, it's unforgettable. It's up tonight- if you have access to light-pollution-free skies in the next few weeks, Joe Bob says check it out.
