May. 30th, 2005 09:59 pmSo, Memorial Day weekend.
Friday I worked, of course, and when I got home did some of that dorky demon-slaying I do some Fridays. This was hub's game, and it went well. We fought terminally clumsy dark mantles. Oooh!
There was an ongoing battle between "hooray, a long weekend! Time to catch up on some R&R!" (though I personally don't get holidays off if they fall on my workdays, which this one does not- so it's not actually any different for me but hub had today off so whee) and "oh, dear, a long weekend- better do something productive!" and fighting the pressure to overload oneself with chores and such at the expense of recovering from what was for hub, at least, kind of a long and crappy week. I whined and cajoled and got him to embrace his inner slacker some more. It was a fight, but I think we were successful.
Saturday was visit Lauren briefly and run a bunch of errands day. We had fun looking at lamps and getting the cats all stoked up with 80 pounds of litter and stuff.
Sunday, I went with Gordon to see some land he's considering buying. It's southeast of here, near a little town I've never heard of called Rockne. It's 15 acres, a strip about 300 feet across and however long it would have to be to be 15 acres, roughly the dimensions of the monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey (maybe even skinnier), as I recall from looking at the map thingie the realtor faxed him. It was a good hour getting there, and is really remote. But it's a nice little piece of land, with a lot of some kind of oak I'm not familiar with (maybe pin oak, I need to look it up EDIT: nope, not pin oak... looks like post oak) and even some pines. He's pretty psyched about it, and is looking into price, restrictions, and so forth. He doesn't have any really ambitious plans for it other than clearing a spot for circle, and eventually maybe putting some kind of little cabin there but that would be years down the pike.
I got home by about 4 and hub was making the first batch of ice cream. Sheena came over to hang out and we watched a movie and listened to rain. She split after the movie and we had gotten all geared up to go to Brö's but he got an offer he couldn't refuse at the last minute so we were on our own and feeling weirdly social. Everyone else was either busy, sick, or tired. So we just ate our ice cream all by ourselves. It was fucking great ice cream, too! Vanilla really is a flavor.
We also watched an old movie, Ordinary People. It was one of those movies from my youth that influenced me greatly. It was why I got a degree in psychology, not that I ended up doing much with it professionally. Hub said he was interested in seeing it because of this, and so we Netflixed it. He agreed that it was good, which made me unreasonably happy. We tend to have a somewhat divergent taste in movies.
