Some filament or other is burned out in our heater, rendering our home without heat. We still have hot water and hot tubs and gas stoves, so it really could be a lot worse. The guy came out almost immediately, he just has to get a part. We slept with a space heater in our bedroom and it was quite comfy (and the cats were more snuggly than usual, as you could imagine). I'd certainly rather go without heat for a few days in the winter than without a/c for even a day in the summer here.

I still have something wrong with my neck. I expect it's some tension-related stuff, but I've been more tense over the last few months and it hasn't been this bad. I went to the chiropractorb on Friday, but woke up yesterday with it feeling worse than ever. Naproxen and hot tubbing and hobbit leaf helped some but it's still bothering me quite a lot today. Bean's said she'd come over and 'squish' on it when I get off work... I haven't had any sort of massage in years, I hope it helps. Otherwise I'll have to wait 'til Wednesday to go to the chiro again. As much as I may bitch about my insurance, I'm glad it covers this.

Last night we watched some more Buffy. That's become a nice low-impact evening activity when we don't feel like doing much besides cocooning. We also had artichokes- I saw them on Good Eats and remembered the one time I'd ever eaten one (by itself, as opposed to in the perennial spinach dip) with my mom several years ago. I remember it being sort of a pain where you had to cut all the individual leaves and whatall, but the Good Eats method was simple, requiring 2 cuts off either end with an electric knife. Piece of cake. The artichokes were a little on the old side so they were kind of fibery, but once you got to the middle they were very yummy! I wonder when artichoke season is; I'd like to try one then.

Buffy is getting more of a sense of being a series. You can tell the writers thought there was going to be more seasons because stuff's starting to not get wrapped up at the end of every episode. Scott Evil likes Band Camp Girl- will they ever meet? Taster's Choice guy was Jack the Ripper- what will the gang do when the find out? I was amused when Spike came on the scene and roasted the little kid vampire- guess his contract was up, huh? They are wearing the 'attractive stranger comes to town, someone in the gang thinks they're hot, and they turn out to be a mantis/cult leader/Incan mummy/et cetera' plot device a wee little bit thin, but it's fine, it works. I'm also still not digging on Angel (set phasers to brood!), he reminds me too much of Dylan on Beverly Hills 90210. I'm also glad they killed off the master- after I learned he was Niedermeyer from Animal House, I kept hearing that line "What do you want to do with your life?!?!" from the Twisted Sister video every time he got on a rant.

Some of the one-liners in the episode are hysterical, and I think my favorite part of watching the show. So far, the episodes that have stuck with me more than the rest are 'The Pack' where some of them get possessed by hyena spirits... and whichever one it was where they all started living out their dreams; a good blend of comical (the 'show up in class naked' dream everyone has, the knife-wielding clown) and scary (Buffy's dad tells her he has always been disappointed in her and leaves- that scene gave me chills). There have definitely been some really good episodes and effective creepy scenes, and the show is quite entertaining even when it's predictable.
