Bring out your dead...

...and make them into jewelry! The ironically named Life Gem company will take the remains of a person or pet, cremate them, and smoosh them into a blue diamond. You still get a box of ashes, but they get enough carbon to make a bunch of diamonds up to a 1 carat large. They only have blue for now, but say they will soon have the technology to do clear, red, and yellow, and up to 3 carats. You know, I have been sort of obsessing about death a lot lately, and this actually seems like a really interesting concept. Of course, it is expensive. And I am a little squicked about how they refer to carbon as being 'the true essence of your loved one.' But it still seems cool.

Skank-ho adventures update

Her insurance, Farmer's, and I have been playing phone tag since Friday. They finally got the message that they could reach me if they called my cell-phone today. I spoke to the agent in Bryan, and she asked if she could record the conversation. I said yes, and told all my identifying information (at her prompts) and then described the accident, as well as my interaction with the police and with Skank-ho. She got the information she needed, and shut off the recorder. Then she said 'well, we'll be happy to pay this claim for you. Although Ms.Skank-ho is adamant that she was not at fault, she backed into you so she is obviously at fault.' She got the information about where the car was now to give to the Farmer's guy here in Austin, and we said our fond farewells.

Huzzah!

The irony of this is about to make my head explode...

Some morons want to return the Statue of Liberty to the French. It actually says on the top "We Don't Want It Anymore."
