Well, I got a response to my email. It reminded me of that joke where the punchline is 'I went to charm school and learned how to say "that's nice" instead of "fuck you"'. Oh well, it could have been a lot worse.

I visited with friend Cathy yesterday. It was really good to see her; she gets really hermity over the holidays and had been scarce prior due to some changes in her life. She was my best friend for a long time; she went with me to Albuquerque when I wanted to ride the balloons, I went with her to New Orleans when she wanted to hang out with the vampires- and best of all, when I woke up on my 30th birthday and was feeling all alone and sorry for myself, she went with me to Houston where we saw the IMAX and the butterfly zoo and the planetarium and the regular zoo. But since we both got hitched (officiating at each other's weddings) we haven't been around each other as much. So I enjoyed catching up, and we hope to do meal exchanges every now and then since we're both trying to not eat out as much.

Speaking of which, Gordon wanted to take us out to Ventana, the restaurant attached to the culinary academy that recently opened up. His super-critical nature loves going there, because he can pick on them over minor crap and they take it, since it's a school and they welcome critiques. I thought it was okay, but I think I may not be meant for rich food or something, being of hardy peasant stock like I am. The soup was fine, but the main dish was eh. It was a portabella with some kind of really, really strong cheesy stuff on top that had a vinegary flavor to it- it was awfully overpowering, which is not what I'm looking for in a mushroom dish. Then it was surrounded by things that were sauteed so much that they were almost unidentifiable, and 2 bready potatoey things that someone referred to as high-falutin' hush puppies. It was an okay meal, but I'm glad I wasn't buying.

We came home and puttered around. There were dire warnings on the news about how it was going to get down to 25 degrees- I know I am in Texas and have been here most of my life, but 25 degrees is not that cold! There are surely places in the lower 48 where it didn't even get up to 25 degrees! Ah, well. But that or the food or something gave me really odd dreams, all of which I remember is that hub had the body of Master Shake from Aquateen Hunger Force (if you're not familiar, a fast-food drink cup with a straw and a face) and the voice of Betty White of 'Golden Girls' fame. ??? Then we wake up this morning and he's all stuffed up, and it's given him the voice of Barry White, which makes me want to have sex with him, but he has to go to work. Woe is I!
