Dec. 26th, 2002 11:31 amChristmas was not bad. Hub pulled off a splendid dinner as expected, and we had visits from both of his parents which was nice. Mom was in some pain because her back was really bothering her; I offered her all manner of relief and she settled on Darvocet, which is pretty hairy stuff which implies that she was really in a whole lot of pain and didn't want to bother us about it. :( But the drugs helped.
Bro was unusually crabby; he's sort of touchy anyway but he seemed even more sensitive and pissy. We talked later, and have concluded that it was a combination of missing his significant other (who went to stay with his family for a couple of days) and undiagnosed seasonal affective disorder. He has depression anyway, and treats it, but in addition to standard year-round depression he was also fighting SAD, which both Dad and I have in abundance. So it caught him off-guard; when I mentioned it he acted as if it had never occurred to him. Anyway, he pretty much opened his presents, ate dinner, then fled home immediately. Blah.
Mom broke the bank again for us this year, which bothers me on one level but at the same time, it's all books! Finally I had people pay attention to my Amazon wish list and clear a lot of stuff off it, so now I have many wonderful books to read. I also have a lot of candy (I think she must want me to weigh 400 pounds) and a couple of things to watch and listen to as well. She got hub a Calphalon sauce pan, which he put to good use right away. Bro got me a gift certificate to Lowe's which we can come up with a lot of ways to spend; we're still waiting to hear back about the mortgage refinance loan to see if we have some extra money to spend, with which we'd like to replace our crappy sliding glass door with the frustrating vertical blinds with one of these, but if the loan falls through we may not be able to manage it.
Oh, and hub's mom gave me some fish money! It's a gift certificate to Amazonia. I wonder what I should get...
Today is just going to be cleaning and relaxing. It looks like we're going to head out to Sweetwater to visit Dad next weekend. I haven't seen him since he moved out there; he sounded so cheerful when he called to wish me a Merry Christmas that I didn't even recognize his voice. I'm glad he's out there.
