fenwickrysen; maybe this will make up for the horror that was the last personality test post. Hey, they can't all be winners.
Name a song that...
....reminds you of an ex.
Hmm. Probably 'Black' by Pearl Jam. In the final stages of my break-up with the Evil Ex, which was truly a horror, he said it made him think of me. It's funny because he identified with the singer, who was dumped, even though he was the dumper. In a fit of masochism I put it in my mp3 rotation, but almost every time it comes up I leap to hit the button to skip over it. Ouch.
....makes you cry.
I'm more of a visual person; I think I mentioned somewhere else that the 'Circle of Life' sequence from the beginning of 'The Lion King' always gets me. It reminds me of the time when I went to Albuquerque to hang with my dad right after above break-up, and I went to see that movie while I was there. It hit me as very hopeful in a very dark time.
....reminds you of high school.
Any number of songs from various hair bands. I am a nostalgia freak (thanks Napster/AudioGalaxy, RIP), so I listen to a lot of 80's music and it sort of wears the past associations off, but there's stuff I dislike now that I liked then... the band WASP comes to mind. Oh, and 'Africa' by Toto- we played that in marching band.
....reminds you of childhood.
'Isn't She Lovely' by Stevie Wonder. My parents said it was about me.
....mirrors true life a little too closely
'It's Money That Matters' by that guy... what's him name... something Newman? Randy Newman.
....makes you laugh.
'I'm Too Sexy'. Somehow I missed the period when it was played to death on the radio and heard a co-worker singing it at the gym. It always cracks me up.
....will always get you up to dance.
Nothing gets me to dance except a lot of booze; I'm too self-conscious. I will wiggle in my chair and sing along, that's about it. My favorite for that is 'So Much To Say' by Dave Matthews.
....you used to hate but now love.
'Love Stinks' by Peter Wolf or J.Geils or whatever. The thing that changed my mind was Adam Sandler's bitter, half-drunk version from 'The Wedding Singer'
....you love but wouldn't know about if it wasn't for a friend
Evil Ex introduced me to Led Zeppelin; I don't think I would have heard much besides 'Stairway' if not for him. Another friend got me into the Smiths when I was in college (or at university, as you kids say these days), which helped me though another break-up. Yay, mope rock! Another friend got me into the song 'Seven Bridges Road' by the Eagles, which is the closest to country that I ever came to liking (except the occasional Lyle Lovett tune).
....you like from your parent's record collection
Songs by Earth Wind and Fire, and the Doobie Brothers (with Michael McDonald).
....makes you think of sex
Besides the obvious ones like 'I Want Your Sex' (bleh), there's 'Passionate Kisses' by Lucinda Williams. 'I Feel Love' by Donna Summer. 'Closer' by NIN (OK, that was probably obvious).
...is your anthem.
Probably this one. Like many DMB songs, it talks about how we should enjoy life. It has a ring of
todfox's ethical hedonism about it that I like as well.
