After not being able to sleep the other night, I woke up the next day completely exhausted so I called in sick to work. Then I went in around noon. Garsh, a 6 hour workday is much more pleasant than a 10 hour workday!

After getting home I finally pitched in and helped hub with the floors. I have not been too good about it so far, and he's pulled up most of the linoleum by himself already. Last night we started in on the carpet. There's this beigish-grey carpet with that blue-and-multicolored composite foam padding beneath. Below that was dark brown... no wait... light grey concrete with a solid layer of blackish-brown dust about 2-3 mm thick. I mean, a completely solid layer of this stuff! Not as in all one big chunk, but as in it was an evenly-distributed layer that you could not see concrete through until you swept it up. It was very heavy when I held a dustpan full of the stuff, so I'm wondering if it's powdered concrete or asbestos or what. I can't imagine that this stuff is all just accumulated pet dander and 'living' dirt. I sure am glad I had a dust mask on.

Bean and Colin and Bob came over and bragged and shrieked and dicked around for awhile. Then I went to bed at midnight. I need to start being a hard-ass about my bed-times; there is just no getting around the fact that I can't do a 10-hour workday after 6 hours of sleep.

I still have that shooting pain in my leg. I'll call the chiropractor and maybe she can help out.

But the kitten! She is coming around! The first thing I do when my feet hit the floor in the morning is feed my fishies. They are on a coffee table in the bedroom (although after we're done with all the floor crap I may move them downstairs to where it's cooler) so I sit on the floor and gaze peacefully at the fish. The kitten who is now called Maya has taken to creeping up and wanting to be pet at this time. When I stand up she bolts, but as long as I'm sitting on the floor in front of the tank in the morning, she will demand attention from me. Not if I'm sitting there at any other time, though once when hub and I were sitting on the floor in the dining room she came over a bit tentatively as well.

I must have skritched on her for 20 minutes this morning. She purrs and leans into the petting until she falls over- it's cute! And she's my first really short-haired cat. Somehow all the others I've had have had medium-long thick Maine-coon type coats. But her hair is very dense and short; it feels like mink fur. The funny thing is, Bolt is already hanging at the tank when I awake because I feed him a bit of fish food (I don't know how this started, but he insists on it- he loves the bloodworms I feed the betta) and Bowie is just an attention whore and shows up if another cat is having any fun with the humans. So I will often be sitting by the aquarium with three cats while I'm waking up. That's nice.

Does anyone remember that website where you bought imaginary stock in celebrities? I used to noodle on it all the time years ago, watching my few favorite celebrities go up and down based on if they were in a movie, died, etc... I had a couple of somewhat famous people, then some not-as-famous ones like James Earl Jones. I wonder if it's still up.
