Yesterday and today were days of mellowness. There has been final unpacking from the camp-out, and general picking up around the house.
Yesterday we dined at Taco Cabana and I had a potential student who works as a waitress come over and visit at 10:30pm. She seemed pretty cool. I swam in the pool for the first official time this year (though I've gotten in more than once to clean) and it was quite pleasant, and definitely felt different with no hair.
Oh yeah, about that! I had one fellow at work (where I've worked for 2 years, mind) ask when I started and welcome me aboard. Another who I've been at conversational level with before carefully asked if I had been in chemo. Pretty much everyone knows now and has either seen it or seen pictures. My mother is horrified, but in that supportive 'whatever makes you happy dear' mom sort of way. The only person I've specifically avoided telling has been my dad. He is very hung up on men looking like men and women looking like women. When he finds out about this, I can bet every cent I have that he's going to take it that there's a sign of some other problem that I'm avoiding; most likely that I'm depressed. Many people seem hell-bent on coming up with a deep spiritual or psychological or political reason for doing it... it seems that "I was curious" is hard to accept. Oh, well. :)
Today was more house cleanage. We saw the final episode of 'The Prisoner' after watching all of them in order and getting more and more curious about how it would all get wrapped up. Well, I have to say it was a big WTF?! sort of thing. I can see why the fellow that made it had to not do TV for awhile as people tried to unravel his creation.
We did some shopping, and hub was very kind to me. I mentioned that I was craving a BLT, thinking I'd run to Short Stop and pick up one for a buck fifty. But no, he goes and makes bread machine bread and buys some really tasty bacon and makes me the best goddamn BLT I've ever had. What a guy! We also have ingredients for stuffed peppers, calabacita, big salad night, and other tasty meals. I'm bummed that he's unemployed, but I sure love that he enjoys cooking every night.
yansa is in town, and tomorrow we will get together and do... something Austiny. If the weather stays the same (it read 101 degrees here earlier today) it will probably consist of huddling in a dark air-conditioned movie theater or some similar indoor activity. Then Saturday we're going to try to hit Hamilton Pool with the pagany contingent. I hope
yansa has a good time! I wanted to plan more outdoorsy sorts of things for him since he seems to favor them, but I am just too much of a wimp in this heat. If it doesn't end in swimming at some point, it needs to be indoors for the most part. This is what happens when hearty Swiss-German peasant stock moves to the sub-tropics.
