The vet called back with Bolt's kidney labwork- his levels are higher, and she thinks he's going into slow renal failure.
She said it was pretty common in old Siameses, and Bolt's a 12 year old Siamese mix. He otherwise seemed fine at his check-up, no one seemed to notice anything wrong by looking at him and I hadn't seen any changes either.
She says he needs to go on prescription food and under-the-skin fluids every two weeks. I have no idea how this is done, and she said they could do it, or if he seems to take to it OK, they can show me how to do it at home. I don't even like pilling him because it upsets him so much; I hope I can learn to stick a needle in him.
I don't want him to die... if you readers want to send some thoughts or prayers to my kitty, I'd appreciate it a lot. He's been around in my life longer than anyone else except my blood relatives, and it's going to be hard for me to help him through this, and eventually to his end. I've never had to nurse a sick pet before; it's always been birds or fish that just went belly-up on me suddenly, and I was not all that attached to them. This is different. It's really hard. I love him. He's my friend, and I don't want him to go. I'm going back in next Wednesday and she will give me more information about all this.
