Yesterday was Dave Matthews Day (he turned 36). To celebrate DMD, I cleaned every damn thing in the house, just about. And some things outside of it. I have been taking these allergy medicines (which could be anything from nothing to a pretty large dose of Allegra) and I think they make me sort of aggressive. I felt really out of sorts and angry for no good reason. Hub thinks it's the Allegra. Ick. Anyway, I tried to put the energy to good use, and did a lot of picking up, some cleaning, mopping, and every last bit of laundry I could manage.

I also cleaned out both fish tanks. The 10g was no big deal; a 25% water change is one bucket of water. But the 55g has 2 filters, one with a whole lot of parts that all needed a good cleaning (except the good bacteria bio-wheel, of course) and requires considerably more water taken out for a good water change. So I used the gravel vacuum to siphon a lot out. One of the mollies got sucked in, but because he's too big, he got lodged in the tube. I stopped the flow thinking he could back out, but nothing doing. I ended up having to blow him out of the tube (ecch) and he looks a little banged up today, and has some tail fin missing. Poor guy. He will get to be the aquarium's shaman now. But the tank looks a lot better! The only problem is that it seems some of them have turned up with salted fish disease (Ichthyopthirius multifiliis) so now I get to dump green stuff in the tank and hope it goes away. From what I understand this is not an especially fatal disease but it's still a nuisance.

Hub has decided after watching me limp through some Sims play that I need an upgrade. One of the few perks of his job is that he can get parts cheap, so he's going to be putting some stuff in here (new motherboard mainly, which is little, yellow, and different) to make it 'screaming fast.' That sounds cool!

Sadly, we did not get our mortgage refinanced. His income just looks crappy on paper, since some of it was paid in cash and he has no proof. We obviously have enough to pay the mortgage (we've never been late) and our credit is excellent- I am somewhat annoyed that these guys think they'd be taking a risk when this would lower our payments from what we have now, but I understand the numbers have to look all right. So, that got torpedoed. We're keeping our fingers crossed in hopes that he gets this permanent job with Pervasive (send vibes if you have them to spare!) and may try again if that happens. It also has to happen before I buy a car, or we'd have that much more debt on paper and it would probably knock us off again. Blar.

Is it just the mollies that have the ich?? Mollies and livebearers in general like a bit of salt in their water (like, a teaspoon per gallon). It won't hurt the other fish, so give that a try.
