Cookies are baking. I'm making 2 batches tonight. I can tell I'm going to be sick of them before the night's over. Such problems I have!

I hung out with [livejournal.com profile] todfox Thursday. It was cool to see him; it had been awhile. We talked about Half Price and I met Yuki, a nippy dog but you could tell it was more playful than genuinely aggressive. This was after I went to The Candle Factory, the squarest place in the world and nowhere to be if you have the slightest chemical sensitivity. Hub gets ill in that place from all the scents, and he would've absolutely hated it if he'd gone with me this time because it was wall-to-wall grandmas buying last-minute prezzies. They were all very hurried and impatient. It had been taking its toll on the staff, too, because they seemed to be completely flummoxed by a simple yes-no question I'd asked. I escaped with my life and a bunch of tapers. As much as I gripe, they have the best tapers in all sorts of colors, and as a Wiccan that becomes a valuable resource to me, as one might imagine.

So after TCF I picked up Kit. We hit the Japanese grocery where he got some tofu, then went to Natural Magick where I was able to get some incense charcoal. I need to find someplace where I can buy that in bulk. I bought a box through the mail from Azure-Green but they didn't ever stay lit without a lot of work. Perhaps I need to check a church supply place. Then we hit Petco to get kitty litter, and the HEB. Dropped Kit's stuff off, then headed up to my place.

It wasn't long before Gordon showed up, and he, Kit, hub and I went to stalk the (not very) elusive mistletoe for ritual tomorrow. Gordon has a brass bolline that he calls his golden sickle, and one of his traditions is to harvest it for the ritual on the Full Moon before Yule. We'd scouted a good bunch the previous day so it was a quick hunt. Then we hit Taco Cabana for dinner- not bad though they were out of their wonderful squash and corn soup (calabacita, I believe) that they only seem to have half the times I go there and ask for it.

Next we headed to 37th Street to see the lights. The residents on a couple of blocks (and some adjacent blocks) decorate with chaotic, copious little strings of lights, some painted with stain glass paint to create all sorts of colors you can't buy in the store. Some of the decorations are quite elaborate, many are whimsical, and it's always fun to see. The weather was clear, cold (for Austin) and windy, and with the Full Moon it made for great walking weather. The lights were legion, and crazy as ever. After dropping Kit off (he lived nearby) we came back here and had a bit of hot chocolate. All in all, quite a good evening.

Where's the Candle Factory??

Also, if you ask the sidelines buyer at BookPeople (Julie Gold; I used to work there) to special order you a box of charcoal, I'm pretty sure she'll do it.

Thanks! You sure have been helpful to me lately, I appreciate it!

That's a clickable link to the Candle Factory- it's on I-35 just south of Georgetown. Here are their more specific direction. Lots of cute sparkly candles shaped like kitties and puppies and Jesus, but an excellent selection of hand-dipped tapers in every color, and candle holders of all sorts.
