Work, work, work. And I forgot to put deodorant on before I headed out and now I worry that I am not-so-fresh. I'm worrying because I'm either having hot flashes, or it's just really freaking hot at my pod. We don't have cubicles, they're pods, remember that. I hope I don't get too stinky; we have a unit meeting today.

Last couple of nights have been nice and quiet, including a couple of walks around the neighborhood. Austin is truly a beautiful city.

I am told to warn all you people off of seeing the new Lord of the Rings movie, because its initials (LOTRTTT) have most of the letters in Trent Lott's name, indicating a conspiracy by the government to send subliminal messages during the movie. Boredom is a scary thing, isn't it?

In other news, I ran into a guy at Half Price Books last week who I used to play D&D with many years ago when I was going to UT. He mentioned that the former DM, who I was really close friends with, was still in Austin. A quick google search pinned him down in no time so I sent him an email. He's sort of like a straight Gordon- a big, firey personality. We stopped being friends when he kept pressuring me to go out with him, but he's gotten married so I imagine he's safe now. Of course, when he did that I stopped speaking to him, so he may decide to ignore my letter, which would be fair, I suppose. We'll see.

Pod People...

I remember that... When I worked in Ohio, we'd started out in Cubicles... but inevitably, as the project grew, we gained people, but didn't gain space.... So Pods were introduced... first two-man, then three-man pods.

I'm still not so sure it was a great idea. I had some good pod-mates, but I think that the benefits of mentorship (podded with some good programmers who were willing to answer my neophyte questions) was balanced out by the loss of work time due to socialization and distraction.

Ours are leetle tiny one-body pods; 2 walls in v-formation with the computer stuck in the crotch of the V. It's smaller than any office space I've ever had, but it pays better than any job I've ever had too, ironically enough. It is easy to get distracted too, which is why I got some of those big clunky headphones that look like big Princess Leia buns.
