I finally bailed around 3 yesterday. I grabbed some lunch on the way home, and then went to bed. Then I remembered that Gordon wanted to take us to a restaurant that recently opened up here- a Cheesecake Factory kinda place (not sure I'm remembering the name exactly). Apparently they are a California chain, but this is the first time I've ever seen one and Gordon loves to play tour guide to new places. They have more than just cheesecake, which was our first question.

Appetizers ordered included avocado eggrolls, not bad themselves but it came with a tamarind and something else sauce that was really tasty, so we had a Chinese/Mexican/Indian thing going that worked really well. Then there was corn tamale blobs- basically corn mush with cheese, cilantro, avocado, and some kind of creamy stuff (probably sour-cream based) that tasted a huge lot better than it sounds when I describe it. I demanded that hubby make it for me, and he said it should be pretty easy. Yay!

For the meal, I ordered chicken mushroom farfalle. It arrived looking wonderful but there was something about the way it smelled that really turned me off. I think they used some kind of really footy cheese, which is fine on any other day but because I was not feeling well I could only take a few bites.

I also drank probably 2 quarts of water, I have no idea why but I'm guessing because of said illness. We tried not to be too taxing to the waiter, but bless him, Gordon is always just a bastard to the waitstaff. He's gotten a lot better though, especially after I refused to go out with him for a little while. He was fairly nice to this one, very flirty, and managed to keep himself at 'high maintenance' and avoid 'mean.' Baby steps. *sigh*

So then we had to get cheesecake, it's like a rule or something. I ordered white chocolate (a misnomer, but what the hell) macadamia nut, and the 2 bites I had of it were wonderful- more leftovers for Mielikki! (FYI I typed that originally as 'loeftovers', which is German for leftovers. Yes, it is.)

Hub had a tuna sammich, which he said was decent- about as good as the one you can get at Chili's (and more expensive). The fries were awful, though, which Gordon had warned about. Ah, well. He had carrot cake cheesecake, which he loved.

Gordon declared us a cheap date, and overall I'd say it was a pleasant dining experience. It would have been better if I wasn't feeling sick, and if it wasn't so crowded, but it's the holidays and the place just opened. Due to the cost I probably won't visit much unless I need to have cheesecake, or can sponge off Gordon some more. We'll see.

He also was happy to show off his new satellite radio. I had fun flipping from New Age stations to 80's music to comedy to gospel to a man-talk channel. That whole no commercials thing is pretty tempting, but he mentioned that it was $500 for parts, set-up and the first year (and $13/month after). It would be amusing to put this in my $400 car. Plus, horror of horrors, it's... monaural. Hub and Gordon were both moaning and complaining about how terrible that is, which I don't get at all. But then I have a crappy car stereo, so there you are.

I went home and tried to get a good night's sleep, but had really weird, vivid dreams and woke up about every hour. Blah.
