I got an early birthday present!

I wanted to check out those black neons yesterday at Amazonia so we went. They were there and available, so I nabbed 7 of them (but was only charged for six! How nice!) and a betta- the neons in the 10g were looking bored. So I was perusing the other available creatures, and saw a tank of these beasties- the electric blue crayfish! They really are that color. I was oohing over them, and found out that they are indeed fresh water, and hub offered to get me one for my birthday, since it's coming up and he has had no luck getting me anything. So I brought home li'l Pinchy last night, and he's been hiding under the log, but I was able to draw him out a little by feeding him some frozen blood worms. Boy, are those disgusting. I was going to feed him the dried ones the betta eats, but the nice fish nerds told me that he won't eat it until it sinks to the bottom, and I know the other fish would get them before they had a chance to sink. So, frozen ones it is. Bleh.
I looked into getting some plants, but when I checked the lighting I've got, it seems like there is not enough lighting for most kinds of plants, including the ones I have in there now. So I'll be needing to get some fish bulbs soon. Aren't hobbies wonderful? @@
The black neons are happy. They seem to really get along with the scissortails, and in fact they are all schooling together. It looks pretty cool.
Oh! And while I was at the store, I peered into some of their larger tanks, and they had plecos (the algae eater fish) that were about two and a half feet long! And, the one I have that got too big for the 10g, he could conceivably get that big too! Fuck! They are quite cool prehistoric looking big bastards, but I don't know if even the 55g could handle a fish that big. I guess I'll deal with that when and if it becomes an issue.
