Well, flarn. I picked up 6 hours at work today for some extra cash (though I won't be seeing it until December- I'll probably really need it by then) with the assumption that hubby would be at work all day. But they have no calls for him. So he's been puttering around all day, applying for more jobs. This is totally stupid; why are so many jobs either paid hourly and you can't get enough hours to make enough to eat, or salaried and they expect you'd have no life and expect you to work 60 hours a week? Feh. He's applying at a bunch of state agencies, where (for all their other problems) that is generally never a problem.
I know, because as of yesterday I have 10 years of tenure with the state of Texas. This is quite a happy thing, because it means I will get state insurance when I retire until the day I die. Even if I were to quit tomorrow and go elsewhere, as soon as I hit whatever retirement age, I get free insurance. I'll say this- the pay isn't great, but the state takes care of its own. As a totally separate thing, I may also be eligible for a raise, because I've been with this agency 18 months. In some instances that gets you an automatic raise, but in others it's 2 years. I have an email to HR to try and find out which category I'm in. Because of taxes and my part-time status it might only be something like $50 a month, but every little bit helps.
My plans for fun in the Sun may be thwarted by another hurricane. If I wasn't otherwise so good-natured, between this and Autumnfest, I'd be getting paranoid.
