Turns out, Eric can't drum us through 'Don't Fear the Reaper.' But I can't sing us through Beck's 'E-Pro' on expert, either- failed out miserably. Odelay, motherfucker! Bah.

I did do the 90's marathon on expert with an average of 94%, so I got that going for me.

I really enjoy hearing about your RockBand enjoyment - probably because it's a rare six-degrees thing for me: I don't think you've met my daughter, but you at least know I have one, right? She babysits for the programmer behind Rock Band and Guitar Hero (practically a member of thee family, by now - I'll be sending them some Yuletide bakings).

In fact, the first time I ever heard of RockBand was when she spent a riotous weekend play-testing it w/ the programmer's kids - she was all set to go buy herself a TV & a game console....

That said, I've actually picked up more about it from you...

How are you, post-deer-hittage?

Which programmer? James Fleming?

Don't think so: I don't actually have that kind of personal information on them (she's in college in Boston, and sits for them on weekends, when she's not on RA duty.

I know that last Christmas, the guy gave everyone in his company their choice of a Les Paul or a Strat (*real* ones, ok?) and a Fender Twin Reverb (boy would I love to be on his gift-list?) I know this because Daughter went to the company party (& she doesn't know that much about amps, or guitar models).

But sorry - pretty sure "Fleming" is not the name (now, the widow next-door is named Fleming, but I'm fairly certain she's not a programmer of any kind)

I'm okay- thanks for asking. Was very shaken up, but it seems everyone was able to walk away from it, so I count my blessings.

Oh yeah- and glad you like my Rock Band posts. It seems frivolous and I wonder if my incessant posting about it gets old, but it's really fun!

That's what L. tells me.

E-Pro is difficult. Our usual singer Em was taking a break last week and we did E-Pro...Dave tried singing it, fail. [livejournal.com profile] unkleneal tried singing it, fail. Then I tried...I got through it, but I seem to recall there were definitely areas of extreme peril.

(Don't Fear) The Reaper is no slouch on drums, either. That was always one of the hardest songs for Jason. Try to save some Energy for the very, very end.

It's the cowbell....

Ha! Actually, they gave that part to the vocal track, and I think I was doing fabulously on the cowbell if I do say so. I can play the shit out of some cowbell, and tamborine on occasion too.

Heck, we tried 'Reaper' twice and maybe got through half the song both times- crashing during a long instrumental bit in the middle. Eric's still learning drums and this was one of those where you have to do it on medium or harder. I don't know why I was fucking up the Beck, other'n I wasn't familiar with it, I wasn't hearing the vocal track very well, and expert is not forgiving at all... maybe I need to try that trick with the vocal track volume you mentioned before.

Do you have that manager -- I think it's the tattoo artist? -- yet who will supposedly "let you play bigger arenas you couldn't otherwise play"? I've never been clear on what that's supposed to mean, but I wonder if having him as your manager removes or loosens those "must play on this difficulty or higher" restrictions? Would be easy enough to check, I just haven't yet.

Reaper is ok in the beginning. A bit fast, but steady. Then about 60% in the drum part starts going everywhere. I fail. Then it's a solo period and the vocalist doesn't have anything to sing. By the time it gets to the cowbell, you're done from inactivity. She never has a chance to save me. It's probably doable with a guitarist playing to bail the drummer out.

It's a thought. I have that rather androgynous looking feller that makes weird random shit happen (our own personal agent of chaos, you could say) but I'll check out the tattooed guy; I think we've unlocked him. I forget about the staff aspect of the game half the time.

Understandable. Half the time it's not clear what they actually do. Hmm, now I'm almost wanting to start a new band just to screw around with the different staff.
