[livejournal.com profile] tsarina brought me many Black Phoenix scents to smell and trade... yum! I enjoyed having a sniff-fest in the middle of the work day. Her mom loves Samhain, thankfully, so I can give it a good home. I decided to take three little samples and we'll make up the difference at some point. The ones I nabbed:

Hades: The gloomy Hades enriches himself with our sighs and our tears. The Unseen. Eldest brother of Zeus, Husband of Persephone, Lord of the Underworld and Commander of the Demons of the Underworld, God of Wealth, whose epithets are Clymenus [Notorious], Eubuleus [Wise in Counsel], and Polydegmon [He who receives many / The Hospitable]. Though he is a dark, morbid and morose deity, fierce and relentless, and is stern, pitiless, and sometimes cruel, he is by no means an evil God. His justice is true, even-handed and absolute, and he is possessed of unbreakable loyalty, single-minded devotion to duty, and immense courage. A dark, palpably sacred chthonic blend: black narcissus and cypress, stephanotis, opoponax, labdanum, onycha and ambergris. (my take- a little earthy, but spicy too)

Dracul: Named in honor of Vlad III, Tepes, of the Order of the Dragon. Black musk, tobacco, fir, balsam of peru, cumin, bitter clove, crushed mint, and orange blossom. (again, earthy and spicy, but in a completely different way... colder, somehow)

Anne Bonny: Named in honor of the most notorious female pirate to ever set sail. Wicked, cruel, beautiful, intelligent, resourceful and dangerous: a true role model. A blend of Indonesian red patchouli, red sandalwood, and frankincense. (flowery and incensey, but not in a really feminine way)

I love pangolins. They're like half anteater, half artichoke.

Bored, bored, bored. At least I've gotten to talk to hospital staff mostly today. I mean, that's not good because it often means something bad has happened, but from a purely "how easy a call is this" standpoint it's good because hospital staff are usually knowledgeable, concise, and unemotional. These are the three golden shining steps to the green, green hills of happy intake workerland.

Everyone's going on (and on) about the weather. I bet when I watch the local weather tonight (if I decide to do so) there will be a graphic along the lines of "Ice Terror Alert Level Orange 2005!!!!!!!!" I've been like a veal in this windowless room since 9am and have no idea what's really going on out there. It would be convenient for me if it were to politely wait until I arrive home... then, around 3am after all the drunks have gotten home, dump a foot and a half of Scary Death Ice on every horizontal surface so that they close the office. Which they won't, because we never close. So I don't know what I want.

Snow would be nice, though.

I'm also sleepy... probably because I didn't sleep worth a damn last night. Blar.
austin_tycho: crater (Moonrise)
I have updated my user info page with a dingus that tells some weather conditions. I don't recall why I took the last one down; maybe I figured no one looked at it. This one has the Moon phase, temperature, and Sun and Moon rise and set times. I compared it to the U.S. Naval Observatory (our motto: Naval Gazing So You Don't Have To. HA!) data and it seems pretty close, except it seems to think the Moon rises but doesn't set. I don't think that happens unless you live in Antarctica or something, but I think the problem is actually that it sets after midnight tonight so they don't want to be confusing. Incidentally, this is independent of Ice Terror Alert Level Orange 2005!!!!!!!!, I happened to see it on someone else's journal and liked the Moon phase thing.

Still waiting for one of the local stations to come up with a graphic.
