In my dream... weird-ass Star Trek alternate universe dream )

Hub tells me that Time Warner did not expect as many people to be using the internets and that is why our connectivity has sucked ass for these past many, many months. I am totally sick of Road Runner deciding to crash five times when I'm just trying to check out my comics and catch up on LJ. So Time Warner can kiss my ass. I'm ready to blow the construction guys over at Grande to get them to hurry up and bring Grande to our neighborhood. When they get here, I will be on the phone to them so fast... *frustrated snarl*

Anyway. Saturday I went with Brenda and some of her friends to go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A lot of the reviews I'd read said that Johnny Depp's Wonka was too creepy but I really liked him, even better than Gene Wilder. Gene always seemed sort of inexplicably ill-tempered and mean; Johnny was creepy but humorously so. He was smart and sarcastic and I don't know, I liked him a lot. And no, it's not because I think Johnny Depp is hot. He's not not hot, you know, he's just not on my list, if that makes sense.

I also liked the Jengo Fett Oompa Loompas, which apparently turned a lot of people off.

I dunno, this movie seemed to hit my sense of humor a lot- I found myself giggling through most of it, even in parts that others weren't all that amused by. There were a couple of 'hey it's that guy' moments, with (interestingly) the Borg Queen and the tentacle girl from 'Galaxy Quest'. I also recognize Charlie's dad from somewhere, and I looked him up on IMDB. He's been in some things I've seen, but none of it's giving me that aha moment. Oh well, it'll come to me at some point.

Friday was supposed to be a D&D night, but someone had a death in the family and someone else forgot, so we played Alhambra with the people who did show and I got my butt kicked. Saturday we played Citadels, and I got my butt kicked at that too. Sunday, however, we played Chez Geek and I was victorious! Huzzah! I can't build palaces or cities for squat, but I can slack better than anyone. Huh, I wonder if there is a message in there somewhere.

I also went to church. I think I'll save that for another entry. If Road Runner will let me post this one. :p

I caught up with Cathy and her husband Dave recently. back story )

Anyway, they are our quiet friends. They don't do anything especially crazy, but they find nice restaurants and things like that. Cathy's been taking a lot of accounting classes, and has been doing volunteer work to get experience. One of the places she's been working at is the homeless shelter at St.David's Episcopal Church, and she's been attending and enjoying services there. They're one of the pretty progressive churches out there- they were the ones betting hosed in civil rights marches, and pissing people off by appointing gay bishops. So I figured I'd give it a try.church visit )
