So commence to complaining! Alright. Tuesday night (or maybe Wednesday morning) the smoke alarm went off for reasons that are as yet undetermined. Our smoke alarm works in the sense that it's alarming. It scared the holy fuck out of me and it was hard to get back to sleep after such a huge adrenaline dump- and then I had very disturbing dreams so I didn't sleep worth a damn. Wednesday I had that training, so I was at work from 8am 'til 10:30. We didn't get a dinner break so I ended up eating dinner around 11pm and then going almost straight to bed, only to have to get up early to be back to work at 8am. Thus, last night was supposed to be my 'go to bed early' night to try to catch up. Instead I had a random bout of insomnia (one of the weird, unexpected side-effects from having surgery, it seems- I used to get them pretty frequently but now they only happen maybe semimonthly) and got to sleep maybe around 12:30. Then I woke up every hour or so. That sucks. The cats knocked something over at 6:30 and now I'm wide awake. I'm trying to decide if I should call in at work. After all, I doubt my ability to help the helpless of this great state on so little sleep. Sure I sound clever and perky now (note: sarcasm) but who knows how long that will last.
Ah, my plan to cause rain was successful. I took a two-pronged approach. One, trying to talk Dennis the hurricane into coming our way. That doesn't seem to have worked. Two, going out and looking at the clouds and urging them to keep getting bigger and bigger- cheering them on and praising them and whining and cajoling. So to get me to shut up they dumped a bunch of rain on us last night, which is nice because everything was starting to look depressingly brown around here. It was a good one too, a real soaker with plenty of pretty lightning. All around was that great hot wet concrete smell (I'm serious, I love that) and the smell of dry earth opening up to take a drink. I hope it does it again today.
