On July 29th, mc chris will be at Emo's. And you know, mc chris owns, you want to go to an mc chris show. Now he's on tour so in the meantime, you hafta memorize all of his lines. Or not.

So commence to complaining! Alright. Tuesday night (or maybe Wednesday morning) the smoke alarm went off for reasons that are as yet undetermined. Our smoke alarm works in the sense that it's alarming. It scared the holy fuck out of me and it was hard to get back to sleep after such a huge adrenaline dump- and then I had very disturbing dreams so I didn't sleep worth a damn. Wednesday I had that training, so I was at work from 8am 'til 10:30. We didn't get a dinner break so I ended up eating dinner around 11pm and then going almost straight to bed, only to have to get up early to be back to work at 8am. Thus, last night was supposed to be my 'go to bed early' night to try to catch up. Instead I had a random bout of insomnia (one of the weird, unexpected side-effects from having surgery, it seems- I used to get them pretty frequently but now they only happen maybe semimonthly) and got to sleep maybe around 12:30. Then I woke up every hour or so. That sucks. The cats knocked something over at 6:30 and now I'm wide awake. I'm trying to decide if I should call in at work. After all, I doubt my ability to help the helpless of this great state on so little sleep. Sure I sound clever and perky now (note: sarcasm) but who knows how long that will last.

Ah, my plan to cause rain was successful. I took a two-pronged approach. One, trying to talk Dennis the hurricane into coming our way. That doesn't seem to have worked. Two, going out and looking at the clouds and urging them to keep getting bigger and bigger- cheering them on and praising them and whining and cajoling. So to get me to shut up they dumped a bunch of rain on us last night, which is nice because everything was starting to look depressingly brown around here. It was a good one too, a real soaker with plenty of pretty lightning. All around was that great hot wet concrete smell (I'm serious, I love that) and the smell of dry earth opening up to take a drink. I hope it does it again today.

Mark Morford asks Why Do You Work So Hard?
here's the text of the article )

I took the day off. I went back to sleep when hub left for work, and just got up a bit ago. It was good deep sleep, but full of bad dreams. A stress dream, where (as is often the case in my stress dreams) we had lost the house, hub was gone, and I had to move into an efficiency apartment with Mom. She didn't even have a place for me to sleep, so we decided to go to a furniture place to get me a futon. I was so tense I thought I'd have a big bong hit before I left (not that I ever do that, especially if I'm driving) and got so disoriented, I hit 2 people in the parking lot of the store. Then Mom and I got into a big fight over who was going to call 911. Fortunately neither of the people were hurt badly and refused help from the ambulance guys. Things were looking up when the cops were not dispatched (I figured I'd probably go to jail for DUI at the least) and the folks I had hit were willing to just exchange insurance information. But when I went to go check on my car, a roving band of teenagers was climbing into it and vandalizing it. When I tried to chase them off one of the older ones (or maybe one of their moms) started yelling at me and threatening to kick my ass for daring to stifle their freedom of expression or some bullshit.

So that all kind of sucked. But at least I feel more rested.

In other news, your favorite goddess of the green places gets an appropriate Sith name...
