Jun. 16th, 2005 09:44 amI continue to be an advocate of the 'ask and you shall receive' mindset. It certainly doesn't always work, but it works often enough that it's worth doing. The close corollary is 'it never hurts to ask.' So there I was, sitting in a boring-ass unit meeting at work. Our boss is going through his usual spiel about how we need to be more accurate and faster and get more information and all sorts of other contradictory things that they tell you every month, and we just nod and smile. Sure, we'll get right on that, boss.
Then he opens up the floor for venting, questions, comments, whatever. The conversation turns to 'things we'd like', and after the usual (big raises, ponies, whatall) things get a little more realistic and I pipe up with "Well, I love the unit I'm in and the days I work, but I wish I could move my hours to an earlier shift." That getting off at 8pm crap sucks ass. Another worker who just came back from retirement piped up and said "hey, I work the same days as you and I've always wanted to come in later..." and lo a marriage made in heaven was created schedule-wise. As long as we're both here working the same shifts we're probably going to have this semi-permanent shift trade. It's only an hour earlier, and it's still variable (which I hate) but only within an hour. So I'll be coming in between 8am to 9am, rather than 9am to 10am. Which means I'll be leaving between 6:30pm and 7:30 instead of 7:30-8:30. Again, seems like a little thing, but that was pretty much the only complaint I had about my schedule (well, except for the variable part, but I can live with that) and now it's perfect as it can be when I still have to actually come in and work. :)
In other news, this is a link to many animal-related websites in Austin, and I know I'll need this at some point.
Also, Firefly is coming to the Sci-Fi channel! I agree in spirit with people who want to kill their TVs, but this series is storytelling at it's finest, and you should catch it if you get a chance (of course, you can also do that by getting the dvds too, which I plan to do very soon).
