Mar. 23rd, 2005 11:55 amYesterday was pretty packed. I decided I needed to hit the chiropractor for my neck and back. I know this is caused by me holding all the tension in my shoulders. My music teacher complained about it when I was 11. I'm trying to train myself away from it, but it's a lot of muscle memory to unlearn. And I have a good chiropractor that insurance pays for, thankfully. She can be a rotten person though, apparently; she sometimes gets chatty while she works and I made the mistake of asking her to clarify why she was so pissed off at her bank (she said she was so mad at them that she'd been losing sleep). The reasons were petty and childish, and I feel really bad for the teller that had to deal with her. For future reference I will just refrain from asking her questions like that in the future. Sheesh.
Gordon and I went for an early lunch and had a long talk about various things. He is a very complex person and his personality is a lot different from mine. He's very challenging for me to understand sometimes (and I him), but he seems more than willing to keep trying, and that's a nice thing.
It was a day that needed appreciation, so after some thought I decided to go to McKinney Falls. Damn, that park is gorgeous. And I had it almost to myself too. I kicked my ass hiking but I interspersed it with stops at a few points along the river to soak up the serenity or at the falls taking pictures and sticking various appendages in the running water and listening to the roar. It was great. I also saw something I've never seen before- a natural bee hive. It was a hole in a tree trunk with bees going in and out of it in great numbers, just like in all the cartoons. I didn't get too close but I did get a picture. I haven't downloaded it off the camera to see how much you can see. I also got most of my USDA recommended amount of bluebonnets (I think they will peak next week- perhaps I'll go again) and saw lizards and deer in addition to the standard turkey buzzards and butterflies and other typical Texas wildlife. Oh, and I also saw what I think was an Eastern bluebird! That was another first.
Class went okay. As we were wrapping up hub came downstairs and announced that he'd cut himself shaving. It wouldn't have otherwise been a big deal but he's been teaching himself to use a straight razor, and had a pretty severe mishap. He dropped it as he was trying to sharpen it, and tried to grab it and sliced a pretty significant hunk off his thumb. It wouldn't stop bleeding for the longest time but it was a flat slice (where the chunk of thumb went is under investigation) and it's not stitchable so there was no point in going to the ER. Fortunately one of the students was an EMT and had a huge kit of gauzes and such and advice on how to care for it. I've never heard the sounds come from hub that he emitted when I had to pour alcohol on the thing. Owie. And again this morning, because the non-stick gauze stuck. Owie owie. Poor hub.
I'm at work. I'd rather not be. I'd rather be back at McKinney Falls.
