Empty Bowl Project
Nov. 4th, 2004 11:33 amEvery year I try to make this event. It's a fundraiser for the local food bank. You buy one or two hand-made bowls ($15 for one, $25 for two) and get it filled with some of at least a half a dozen soups made by chefs from local restaurants. The bowls are all unique and can be used as offering bowls, bowls for salt on your altar, or more mundane uses such as cereal, ice cream, potpourri, whatever. I've tried to make it every year and hope to be able to make this one too- I just have to make sure I can get off work. I'll keep you posted on that if anyone would like to carpool, which is recommended since parking in that area is not good for the number of people who usually show up. Anyway, here are the details:
The Austin 8th Annual Empty Bowl Project 2004
Date | Sunday, November 21, 2004
Time | 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM
ClayWays Pottery Studio & Gallery, Inc.
5442 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas 78756-1602
(512) 459-6445
The Empty Bowl Project is a nationwide effort by potters to end
hunger. ClayWays is proud to host the annual event to benefit the
Capital Area Food Bank. We're asking student and professional potters
to donate as many bowls as possible. The empty bowl project has been
an incredible success every year, with each year being better than the
last. Our goal this year is 1800 bowls! We're asking for average-size
bowls (8 oz. – 14 oz.), wheel-thrown or handbuilt, made with food-safe
glazes. And potters may include a card or pamphlet with each bowl
donated. All bowl donations are tax-deductible.
Hopefully I'll see some of you there! If I can get off work I'll probably show up by 10:30am or so in order to get a good choice of bowls. The line that forms usually gets pretty long before they open.
