Well, I went to Pet Smart, the one I could see from my window when I was in the hospital. I was in need of an assload of kitty litter; many places sell the brand I use in a small bag but only a few sell it by the assload. Sadly, this one had shelf space for it but it was sold out.

So I was walking back to the front of the store so I could get my tired, cranky carcass home. I passed by the mammal holding cells, and saw a kitten in one of them. I see them all the time; I usually pass them by without much notice. But one of them looked right at me, perked up, and jumped down, then started meowing from behind the glass at me. Her sister was sleeping and paid me no attention. I can't describe it without sounding really crazy, but when we looked at each other I almost busted out crying. She was so beautiful, I couldn't leave. I thought briefly about just nabbing her and heading home, but I called hub to make sure he was okay with it. He reluctantly agreed. I've tried to do the 'dump and ignore' method to introduce a cat to an already established cat household, and it's been working. The only one who's registered any complaints is Maya, interestingly enough (growling at 3:30, which is why I'm up- decided to get up to watch the Perseids). The others have been demanding more attention, which I give. It's hard to ignore the new girl, but I know it's for the best for now.

I went back to sleep after hub went off to work; and am having that weird out-of-time sense you sometimes get when you get your sleep schedule all messed up like that. I'm hoping that goes away soon, I need to get kitty litter and get ready for class.

One of my more fastidious friends mentioned that the room with the litter box is always stanky, and complained about my inadequate scooping schedule. Well, the problem has more to do with the fact that cats sometimes miss, and the room has carpet. We're thinking about yanking up the carpet and putting in tile- we managed with the tank room and the bathroom a couple of years ago without too much hassle, and tile can be relatively cheap. Also, it's all part of the quest to eventually rid ourselves of carpet completely. After seeing how much crap that stuff holds in it even when you clean it regularly- ew. In the meantime, any of you locals have a wet vac I can borrow? I promise I'll clean it thoroughly before I return it. :)

Harold and Kumar was indeed a very funny movie. If you find stoner humor amusing, or liked 'Dude Where's My Car' (I expect there would be a lot of crossover in these 2 groups, but there was no actual drug use shown in DWMC) you should enjoy this movie quite a lot. I could have done without the whole hillbilly tow truck guy part altogether, but the part with Doogie Howser snorting coke off a hooker's ass or the part where they sing along 'Bohemian Rhapsody' style to Wilson Phillips' 'Hold On' was worth the price of admission. There was subtler stuff too, like the Jewish stoners with the ram's horn bong. 37 thumbs up if you are after something silly.

Hub gets the "Hey it's that guy!" master ninja award for spotting that the black guy in the jail cell ("He's got a gun!") was Stevie's dad in 'Malcolm in the Middle'.

Perseids were spectacular for a view from a suburban rooftop. I was out around 4:30am so the radiant point was pretty high up- also the slim crescent Moon was up very close to Venus, which was just unbelievably bright. I was up there for maybe a half hour and saw about 15 meteors. Considering the light pollution where I live that's pretty good, and some of them were really bright too. I envy those who were able to get to a dark place to watch. If you have a chance, the show should be almost as good tonight too.

Things are still continuing to go well with 4 of 4. She's got that typical kitten curiosity (she's about 3 months old), and is of course cuter than anything. Hub and I were joking about how Bolt was the stepchild brought into the marriage, Bowie was our love child, and Maya was the oops baby. 4o4 is me wantin' something to cuddle, to quote 'Raising Arizona.' Though of course I love all my kitties equally. I'm loudly telling Bolt that he is number one alpha cat, which he needs to hear. Bowie likes everyone, so he's no problem. I'm not sure what's gonna happen with Maya though. She is still very skittish so I figured she wouldn't care, but she seemed pretty unhappy when 4o4 made it up the stairs to the hallway in front of the bedroom- which is her territory. 4o4 hasn't braved the stairs since then... we'll have to see how things develop.
