austin_tycho: crater (Leafy and dark)
We've continued hoping that Maya will return. I'd been feeling pretty pessimistic since neither of us had seen any sign of her; I figured she was in the next county by now (or worse, a sail-cat). I've been torturing myself imagining how miserable she must be in the rain, without food, in unfamiliar surroundings- and it's because of my carelessness.

Last night I left the screenless window opened just a crack. I've been hoping she might track back to where things smell familiar, and maybe make an appearance- but I couldn't leave it open wide or the other cats might get out. Around 4am, I heard meowing and hissing, and saw Bowie at the window and what I'm pretty sure was Maya outside of it. I don't think I've ever heard Bowie hiss in his life, which is why I think it was the other cat. I ran to the window and opened it wide enough to let her in and called at her, but she took off. I looked out the window and saw her on the roof, but figured my big noise-making head was freaking her, so I withdrew. Unfortunately, this means I didn't see where she went or how she got down off the roof. Hub climbed up there from the back porch to look for her but there was no sign of her anywhere.

So, we've dosed the window sill with catnip and valerian, a little dish of füd, left it wide open, and shut the others out of the room. I'm not sure what else to do; Bowie is really pissed that he's being kept out (I already had to chase him around the roof when he ran out after I initially threw it open- imagine running around on your roof in your skivvies at 4am) but hopefully she'll sneak back in at some point. I haven't slept since then, so I'm going to try to go back and get some shut-eye. I have not been feeling well the past couple of days; I think it's the guilt but it might also be allergies or a cold or something else. Bleh.

You know those times when some marketing guy somewhere does something that makes you think "Damn, that's not right!"?

This is not one of those times. :)
