I've been working and sniffling a bunch. What a trooper I am.

I had a slight break in my month-long fast, and went with father-in-law to Zorba's. Since the Initiate's fast gets to have a few of servings of meat in the first couple of weeks, I didn't feel too bad ordering the gyro plate. Zorba's is amazing! They have finally painted in there; instead of egg-yolk yellow it's all blue and white- the blue of the Greek flag, I imagine. Anyway, we had good food and talked about movies and Buffy- turns out FIL is a huge Buffy-head, and just lights up when he talks about it. So cute!

Yesterday was weird. I don't know why, but I was feeling sort of disconnected, and the day dragged on forever. Hub was feeling antsy and angry and left work early; we decided to finally go and see Return of the King. I enjoyed the movie. We were careful to go in slightly dehydrated, and shared one glass of water between us through the whole movie. My complaints- Frodo seemed like... well, kind of a pussy. Sam did everything. Have my lembas, Mr. Frodo. Let me fight off the giant spider for you, Mr.Frodo. Have the last of my water, Mr.Frodo. Let me drag your sorry ass up the mountain, Mr.Frodo. It really struck me as very homoerotic; I almost expected Sam to lay a big smooch on Frodo a couple of times- which would have been kinda cool, except the fundies (Christian and Tolkien) would've been outraged. And Frodo would have looked confused, then complained about his heavy, heavy burden or some crap. Perhaps that's where it doesn't translate as well from book to movie; I felt a lot more impressed with Sam's dedication and found Frodo to be sort of whiney.

Everyone in the movie cried a bunch too. It almost went a little overboard a couple of times. I did get pretty teary when that horse king guy died in his daughter's arms, I'll admit. The movie was pretty, the effects were well-done, the CGI was pretty decent (it was obvious in some places) and the music was good. Overall, I'd say thumbs up. I just wasn't overwhelmed with it's greatness like some of my friends were. It would've probably helped if I had read the books. Bad Wiccan! No donut!

Plans are in place for me and hub to go to Page to visit Dad in the middle of April. There are flights to Phoenix for under $200, but then to get from Phoenix to Page is an extra $225, which is stupid. Dad's pushing for us to rent a car in PHX and drive up to Page- about 300 miles. I can see the logic; it ends up being cheaper but then we're stuck with a 6 hour drive after the flight, and worse, a 6 hour drive before the flight back. But we'll hammer out something before then.
