Slow start

So yesterday I started my fast-diet thing. I'm cutting out meat, caffeine, and trying to cut back on overly-processed foods and sugar. The caffeine headache I had yesterday was amazingly awful. I did have to cheat for dinner, since we had thawed out some pork chops a couple of days ago and had to either eat them or throw them out, but aside from that (and some cookies leftover from Imbolc feast) I've been doing okay. Of course, I then managed to forget my carefully prepared vegetarian lunch; I'll go to Thundercloud for lunch because I know they do veggie sandwiches, but I'm going to have to raid the vending machines for breakfast, damn.

Imbolc went well, by the way- it was a Trad event so there were something like 20 people there. I didn't have to do anything but set up the space- River wrote and HPSed the ritual. It was cool to be able to relax like that. Everyone seemed to get along afterwards too, and didn't leave me too much mess to clean up. I was kind to myself and took the day after off- yesterday. I went shopping with Kirby and shared a gigantor bowl of soup which was fun; we got to talk girl talk for awhile. Hub and I had thought about going to see LOTR but by the time I got home the 2:00 shows had started, so the next shows would have spilled over into Adult Swim time. Not that it mattered- everyone bailed so it was more opportunity for alone time.

We went to Fry's instead to check out dishwashers, woo. Ours works fine except for the part where it leaks at least a gallon of water on the floor. Dishwashers are cheap enough that it would probably make more sense to just replace it rather than try to get it repaired, but still- what a pain. We poked around and gawked at the Apple things for hub and flat monitors for me (someday), then moseyed home and watched Buffy until Adult Swim was on.

It seems weird to come in to work starting on Monday. I kind of like it.

Well, it's pretty much official- there will be no going to the Flipside this year. It takes too much time and money and effort for what looks to be very limited return. They seem to have a problem with people camping in their car, and make them park beyond even the parked cars people aren't camping in. Plus there's just going to be so many effing people there, that land is not really meant to hold more than 600-700 or so comfortably and there will probably be over 1000. Sure it's fun to go camping where there will be friends. But to pay $120 to park in a parking lot a mile away from facilities and where our friends will be... it just doesn't seem like it would be fun for us. In addition it appears someone's already asked off for Memorial Day where I work. So, sorry, burners- let me know if there are smaller (and cheaper) events.

In the meantime, my dad's been bugging me to try to come visit him. He finally said he'd pay for us to fly out there- which is about the only way we could manage, since the time off alone is going to cost. Hub said he'd be willing to take the time off, and it looks like flights to Page Arizona are even cheaper than ones to Atlanta (though if we want to do it in less than 7 hours it gets more expensive). So, once I okay this with Dad I will pick a suitable weekend and we'll take a long vacation around it. He says the wonderful natural monuments are legion out there and it sounds very peaceful and beautiful.

In the other meantime, my girl parts are once again trying to kill me. The fact that this should only last a few hours instead of a couple of days is only of small comfort.
