Our middle child Bowie has decided to be full of angst. He started the day before yesterday; at dark-thirty in the morning he stood at the foot of the bed and just meowed insistently for no apparent reason. I'm guessing he noticed that since we're used to cats being silent (the other 2 only speak when they have something to say) that he gets a lot of attention when he makes noise. When we pick him up, he immediately starts purring happily and soaking up the attention; it doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with him physically (though I'm taking his ass to the vet in the next couple of weeks to be sure). So the other morning, meowing at the foot of the bed. I think I finally yelled at him to shut up, which I never do.
Last night... we shagged, hub and I, and fell blissfully unconscious. I woke up just enough to turn off the TV, and drifted off... right as I was on the edge of sleep, he (Bowie) started.

Hub got up and picked him up- he stopped yowling, started purring, and settled in the bed with us for about 3 minutes, then wandered off. Just as I was drifting off again...

I did yell at him then. He stopped for about 5 minutes, then started again. So I did something I've never done- threw him out of the room and shut the door. The cats have always had access to us if we're in the house, but this was driving me crazy. He then sat outside the door and meowed insistently for I don't know how long. I eventually turned on a light and read until maybe 3am, listening to him bitch, and fell asleep exhausted and angry. I think he meowed all night long. So today, I am not happiness. I don't know what his freaking deal is; he seems to want attention (he shuts up when he gets it) which he could easily get if he just jumped up wherever we are and plopped himself on top of someone, which he has done before. He also didn't behave in any unusual way this morning. I don't know what is going on. If the vet okays him I will feel a lot better about ignoring him, but if that is the case I sure hope we can train it out of him before I kill him.
