Oct. 4th, 2003 10:11 amAw, shit.
Hub was really, really hoping to get this one job- it seemed pretty promising and had all the qualities that he was after in a job. He finally heard last night that they picked someone else. I expected him to be devastated, but he took it really well. It helps that the company he's been doing contracting work for off and on the last 2 years has at least a couple of months of full-time work for him, and his sort-of boss keeps making noises like the instant they give her the okay she would hire him permanently. They have some merger or other that's supposed to go down in December, and he apparently stands a good chance after that. It'd be nice if he went from being a foster child to getting adopted. It also (and I didn't realize this when I was pulling so hard for the other job) would probably pay at least $10k a year more. But it isn't a sure thing by any stretch, so it appears we get to dangle for another couple of months. Shit.
I think I'm finally getting over this damn cold. I still sound awful, and am coughing a bunch. But it's clearing out, at last.
We watched 'Xanadu' last night- well, I did; he fell asleep. I loved that movie when I was a kid. As is often the case, the grown-up viewing of it took some of the shine off, but I've still got some of the songs going in my head this morning.
This week was the last class for this round of Dedicants. Of the 3 that started this set of classes, I have 2 left, which is not bad. I taught some new stuff this year, and overall I think things went pretty well. I really love teaching this stuff.
