I really wanted to do something last night, to the point where I suggested we go see Blade 2. Now, I have no desire at all to see Blade 2 (I'm sorry, but I thought Blade 1 was a bit over-wrought and silly) but I know hub wants to see it. He sensed my reluctance, though, so we ended up taking a walk around the neighborhood and chatting- always nice, and the weather was beautiful... and we went to get burgers after and shop a bit.

I wanted to get some kind of booze for the Full Moon tonight; it's Passover so there was a request to use Passover wine and unleavened bread. I'm cool with the bread thing, but in addition to being Passover, it's also the Full Moon in Spring, in Libra, ruled by Venus- and we don't really need to go whole-hog with the 'bitterness of slavery' stuff. Which is not meant to disrespect Passover, but although we like to honor the concepts of other people's holidays, we're Wiccans and it would feel weird and not appropriate to totally glom onto this Jewish holiday. Anyway I sort of feel that there is a mixture of energies for this Moon, one being the sort of serious celebration of freedom that comes from Passover, and another being the lusty, heathen fertility celebration that comes from this part of the growing cycles in nature. So we're going with the unleavened bread for cakes, and I picked a damiana liqueur for the wine. It's in this wonderful bottle that's shaped sort of like the Venus of Willendorf.

We went to this place called the Grapevine Market to get it. It's a snooty sort of place, and we were driving my rusty 20-plus-year-old Catalina, which happens to have bird poop all over it because I insist on placing bird feeders near the trees that overhang the driveway. I parked this paragon of carness next to some fancy-schmancy silver little furrin 2-seater- hub says it was a BMW Z3. This provoked laughter from hub, both when we went into the store and when we came back out and he saw it again. But poking around the store was really fun- in addition to a fairly decent selection of liqueurs, they of course had tons and tons of wine. Hub, being a writer, likes port so we checked out the ports. They had every port I've ever seen, including the crappy $4 stuff you can buy at the grocery store. They also had his favorites, the Sandeman and the Galway Pipe tawny port from Australia. He saw and grabbed a bottle of this interesting stuff called Deco, in a tall, slender black bottle. It's a mixture of Australian port and American port, with essences of natural chocolate added. Yum for him! I tasted a bit, but I have never been much of a wine drinker. It was good, though.

We also got some fancy chocolate bars, mine dark chocolate with orange peels, his dark chocolate with green tea leaves which smelled heavenly. It was pretty decent chocolate, but not the best I've ever had. Even crappy chocolate is a wonder to me, so I am not by any means complaining.

They also had all sorts of cheeses (Cheese Shop skit, anyone?), pasta and pasta sauces, and other candies (including, looking very out of place, a Spider-man Pez dispenser). Plus your high-quality vinegars and salsas and spreads. It's one of those places where you could probably spend a ton of money and eat very, very well for awhile. We were lucky to get out of there for under $50. It was fun poking around, though, and now I'll always know where to go to get hub's birthday port.
