Feb. 10th, 2002 05:56 pmLast night we went across the border again to get some dinner. Dad drives an SUV (grumble, grouse) which seemed exceptionally large in the streets of Piedras Negras. Additionally, he drives like what he was, a 60+ year old guy looking for something he can't quite remember the location of... so we had a lot of pissed-off Mexicans honking and saying mean things to our car. This made Eric tense. When we finally found somewhere to eat, it turned out to be an OK restaurant that had the same thing 8 bazillion Mexican restaurants here have- cheese enchiladas, chili rellenos, and the like. Then on the way back I mentioned that I still needed to get another bottle of booze if possible, which was a mistake. We drove around like lost gringos at night, and stopped at 3 booze stores that didn't have the kind I was after. This made Eric more tense, and he ended up having his neck muscles spasm on him. Elaine the anesthesiologist came through, as always.
We watched 'Double Jeopardy', which was really not bad at all, and I saw about the first 20 minutes of 'Ronin', then fell asleep. It seems that Dad and Elaine come home from work and watch movies every single night until they go to bed. But they seem to enjoy doing it together. It's kind of cool to see married people getting along. :)
We came home today, leaving a bit after noon. Eric and Dad talked for a good while about guns and blowing stuff up, an activity that I can't really appreciate so he doesn't get to share it too often. Then on the way home, Eric thought up an idea for some fancy gun that he thinks will be a big hit with families and cops (accurate, safe, etc.) and he seems really excited about it. He's hoping he can find someone with access to a shop that will let him use it, so he can perhaps make a prototype.
