I sure love it when callers pull the 'so does my child have to die before you will do anything?' line on me. We can't win. Either people are pissed because we won't start a child abuse investigation because mom's not getting along with dad's new wife ('she calls me crazy in front of my children! They get very upset about that, it's emotional abuse!') or they're pissed because we're too intrusive ('y'all investigated me just because my kid came to school with a black eye and it wasn't even my fault!') or for some other stupid reason ('the parents figured out that I was the one that made the report and now they're mad at me!'). Render unto me a goddamn break! This lady says her kids are doing fine in school, they have no injuries, stepmom doesn't hit them. But she might! And they're upset! Well, divorce sucks, lady. She's pissed that her husband got remarried and if she made peace with that I bet her kids would be a lot happier. But no, I suppose she would be happy if it were against the law for children to be upset. She would get burned every bit as bad as dad and new wife would. God help us all, and those kids.
