We went to see Lord of the Rings last night- and I agree with everyone in the world, it's a really good movie. It almost seemed a little too intense; the characters all came across as characters doing Grand Important Things rather than people. But with epic fantasy it's probably not reasonable to expect that. It's a minor nitpick, though, and I'm looking forward to seeing the next 2 movies in the next couple of years.

Oh- another quibble; the orcs or goblins or whatever they were seemed so squooshy. Covered with slime or mucous or something that just looks like it smells bad. It was a bit much.

I hung out with Kirby before the movie. We've both been thinking it would be nice to get together in some fashion that doesn't involve eating, just to broaden our horizons. So I went to her place and did beady things. I made Mom a necklace a year or two ago that she wanted to be longer, so I put more beads on it to lengthen it. Then I took an amber necklace (if you want to see a picture of it, check here) that I won off of eBay, along with a pendant- another eBay find, a Russian lacquer piece with a firebird on it. Being all High Priestessy and stuff, I decided I wanted to have an amber and jet necklace, and now I had found some amber that I really liked. I usually like cool-colored gems like pearls or blue topaz. So I raided Kirby's jet bead collection and placed round jet beads of different sizes among the darkest amber beads, and hung the pendant between two of the 'rainbows'. If I can figure out how to post a picture of it, and can manage to take a decent picture of it, I'll show you how it turned out. I am really happy with it! I had a little help from Kirby, since I'm still not good at tying the clasps. I picked a nice sparkly gold one. It was also fun to paw through her beads- she has excellent taste and they're always stone (well, jet isn't stone but I mean no glass or plastic) and some of them are high-quality gems. My favorites are the opals and the darkest clear purple amethysts. Yummy.

I think this gives me the idea for the Imbolc ritual I need to write within the next few weeks. I think that was a traditional time for a tool consecration, so maybe it's time for another one. I just have to decide what I want to charge this necklace for. I mean, it's a symbol of my 'rank' and all, but what is it 'for' in the sense of being a tool? I mean, if it's just to look purty there's no point in charging it per se, just cleansing it. Things to ponder.
