Last day. I didn't want to go back to the heat, and just kept inhaling deeply of the sunlit yet still below 80 degree air (I write this near midnight and it's still 85 degrees). We drove the rental car to the airport and dropped it off; then waited. The flight from Santa Maria to LA was packed solid, and I got sick (didn't hurl, just nauseous). This is when the denial finally broke down. I took a Dramamine for the flight from LA to Denver, which was a good thing. We sat on the blacktop and didn't take off for about 40 minutes; they said it was due to a 'traffic jam' with the planes, which apparently happens all the time. Then we taxied to the runway to take off from, and sat for another 1/2 hour or so because there was a storm in Denver. I took all this in stride because the Dramamine was making me a drooling zombie. We took off, and hit Denver, and rolled up to 20 feet from the gate, and stopped.

20 effing feet from the gate.

There was lightning in the area, apparently, and they didn't want to have ground crew running around the big metal thing and getting struck by bolts. So, we sat, and waited. Finally after some period of time (me = zombie, remember; but I think it was at least 1/2 hour) we pulled in. Looked for somewhere to eat and found a grill. The portabella sammich looked good, but so did the chili cheese dog. So we decided to order both and split them. And they had chocolate chip cookies! Yay!

10 minutes go by. 'Ma'am, there's no chili.' 'Fine, just make it a cheese dog.'
10 more minutes; 'ma'am, there's no more portabellas.' 'Fine, we'll just split the dog.'
10 more minutes, we're looking nervously at the clock since the plane boards soon. Cookie in a package is dropped in front of me (before dog arrives); oatmeal raisin. 'Hey, this is not chocolate chip.' 'Oh, yeah, we're out of those.' DAMMIT!

We finally got the dog and gobbled it down, after sending the receipt back a couple of times to reflect all the stuff we didn't order. Plane trip from Denver to Austin was horrifying in that we were surrounded by no less than 4 infants all making various loud infant noises. Eric and I debated moving, but either I was finishing up my book (American Gods by Neil Gaiman, not a bad book) or he was asleep or we were not to get out of our seats because of turbulence. We ended up arriving late due to storms, for which our ride home(Bob) complained long and loud.

Home at last, Eric and I were dead tired, but I still wanted a damn chocolate chip cookie so I went to the store and got me some. We did the thing we tend to do when we get really too tired, which is snap at each other, but immediately apologized. We fed each other cookies and went to bed in our own bed. Huzzah! I will post pictures when I get them.
