Have some cute. It's good for what ails ya.
I've been trying to play Rock Band bass on the 'hard' difficulty level; I tend to just zone out more when I'm playing bass in Rock Band than when I'm singing, and am not generally looking for a challenge. But some of the songs I know really, really well and decided to push things a bit. What differentiates hard from medium is that there are 5 buttons you could be asked to push- and the way your hand wraps around the controller (I'm reluctant to say 'instrument'), you have four fingers available. So you actually have to move your hand up and down the neck once you get to hard or expert levels of difficulty. Which means you have to think a lot more. Maybe I ought to think about my actual bass practice and work on pivoting my hand rather than sliding it up and down, like my teacher done tole me.
Anyway, most of the Cars songs I tried I did okay on; in the upper 80s for percentage of notes hit. They were all in the zero to one level of difficulty for bass (out of zero to six). I forget how I did on Foo Fighters' 'Monkey Wrench' (bass difficulty- three) but I made it through the song. What ate my lunch was Elvis Costello's 'Pump It Up'; the bass difficulty is supposedly one, but I have not managed to get more than about a third of the way through that one on hard without completely crashing and burning. *shakes fist*
