Ah, this is my local neighborhood shopping center. My former co-workers (you'll recall that I USED to work just a 5-minute walk from my apartment *cough*) love Asia Cafe. (Nota pedantice: the market is called Asia Market, and the restaurant inside it is called Asia Cafe.) I usually try to be an adventurous diner, really I do, but I have to admit this place intimidates me a little. There's just this really long list of things to choose from, and really not any way for a non-Chinese speaker to find out anything about any particular one other than ordering it.

And I've been told (and maybe they've put some effort into fixing this, as it seems word is spreading fairly widely among the palefaces) that the English translations, such as they are, may not be particularly helpful as some of them are just plain wrong. I mean, really wrong (again, as I was told); things like the given translation for, say, item number 8 was actually the correct translation for number 7 and vice versa. I think there was a spicy beef noodle soup that we were all fond of (the others more than myself) that was specifically NOT the item which was translated as "Spicy Beef Noodle Soup" (remembering approximately here). In the context of work lunch, I just felt that I was only going to get one chance to get something to eat, and I wasn't fond of using that chance to play Authentic Chinese Roulette. One time I got some sort of "Crispy Chicken" which I found to be extremely salty and dry and unpleasant...another time I got "Twice Cooked Pork" which was probably not very healthy but was admittedly pretty tasty.

So, yeah, I guess I would recommend it with the caveat that you have to be prepared to gamble.

Somehow I have never actually made it to Ann's Kitchen. What's up with that?
